Review: To Kill a Monkey - Brilliant Acting, But Flawed Logic.. I give 7/10
To Kill a Monkey delivers gripping performances and top-class production, but beneath the shine lies a plot that sometimes struggles with logic.
William Benson as Efe and Bucci Franklin as Oboz light up the screen. Their chemistry and intensity keep the viewer glued, and Kemi Adetiba’s direction is sharp and purposeful. You can’t deny the talent involved the major cast carried the weight of the story with passion.
But here’s the thing: some of the crisis in the story feels unnecessary. From the moment things started going south, it seemed like the most natural move would’ve been for Efe to protect his family even if it meant sending them abroad temporarily. Why did that only become an option when it was already too late?
It’s hard to watch a man with so much to lose wait until the very end to make the obvious move. If he truly saw the storm coming, why wait until the rain had drenched everything?
That choice or delay weakens the believability of the character’s decisions. It’s not that tragedy shouldn't happen, but it shouldn't feel avoidable just to keep the story going.
Still, To Kill a Monkey deserves credit. It’s a bold series with a fresh style, strong acting, and moments that hit hard. But next time, hopefully, the logic holds as tight as the tension.
