I used to think a CV was just a document you submit when applying for a job… until I attended the CV & Interview Class organized by IIPSM during a seven-week intensive training program, and my perspective changed completely.
As an HRM and PMP student, I joined the session because I realized I needed more than just academic knowledge. Honestly, I didn’t have any professional certification at first, and I wanted to learn how to properly present myself professionally and prepare for better career opportunities.
As a corps member trying to grow, learn, and put myself out there, I understood that having good grades or experiences alone was not enough — I needed to learn how to communicate my value effectively.
One of the biggest things I learnt was about ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) and how many CVs get rejected before a recruiter even gets to see them. That honestly shocked me.
During the training, I learnt:
• Different CV formats and why the hybrid CV works best for many students and fresh graduates.
• How to properly structure every section of a CV, from skills and certifications to extracurricular activities.
• Common mistakes people make when writing CVs.
• How using strong action verbs and measurable achievements makes a CV more impactful and professional.
But beyond all the tips, the biggest mindset shift for me was realizing that a CV is not just a list of experiences. It is your first introduction, your personal brand, and sometimes your first opportunity to make an impression without even speaking.
This training reminded me that growth is intentional, and learning how to position yourself professionally is just as important as gaining experience itself.
Today, I’m proud to say that I’m now a professional CV writer. I don’t just write CVs — I create ATS-optimized CVs that increase your chances of getting noticed by recruiters.
