Abel Damina made me embark on research that was found to be true, like him or hate him he is preaching the truth.
But who came with that 10% tithe every meeting day in church.
In the Bible, there are three main types of tithes that are mentioned:
1. The Levitical Tithe
Reference: Numbers 18:21-24
Purpose: This tithe was given to the Levites, who were the tribe set apart for priestly duties and did not inherit land like the other tribes of Israel. The Levites, in turn, gave a tenth of this tithe to the priests (the descendants of Aaron).
Function: It supported the Levites in their service to the tabernacle (and later, the temple), as they had no other source of income.
2. The Festival Tithe
Reference: Deuteronomy 14:22-27
Purpose: This tithe was set aside for the purpose of participating in religious festivals. The Israelites were to use this tithe to celebrate before the Lord in the place He chose for His name to dwell (Jerusalem). It was intended to foster community worship and celebration.
Function: This tithe supported religious festivals and was used by the giver and their family to enjoy a feast in the presence of the Lord.
3. The Tithe for the Poor (The Poor Tithe)
Reference: Deuteronomy 14:28-29; Deuteronomy 26:12-15
Purpose: Every third year, the Israelites were instructed to set aside a tithe to be stored in their towns for the Levites, foreigners, orphans, and widows. This was to ensure that those who were less fortunate were provided for.
Function: This tithe served as a social safety net, ensuring that the marginalized and vulnerable in society were cared for.
These tithes reflect a system designed to sustain religious worship, celebrate communal faith, and provide for those in need.
