FRUITFULNESS IN ADVERSITY 1

In the parable of the sower, Mathew 13:1-23, only the seeds that fell on the good soil were fruitful. That's because the conditions were conducive. It might shock you to know that God expects you to be fruitful even in adversity, when the conditions are not favourable for fruitfulness.
The Bible says of our world,
+ *"Man that is born of a woman Is of few days, and full of trouble." Job 14:1*
+ *"In this world you will have troubles.” John 16:33 (ERV)*.
+ *“We must suffer many things on our way into God’s kingdom.” Acts 14:22 (ERV)*.
+ The lures of the world. *"For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions." 1 John 2:16 (NLT)*.
All the quoted scriptures show the world is a place of adversities in different dimensions. But inside this world, God desires us to be light, salt, and *"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Mathew 5:16 (NKJV)*. Hmmm, difficult, isn't it?
No excuse is good enough to be unfruitful as a child of God. Fruitfulness in adversity engages our attention from tomorrow.

FRUITFULNESS 10

Still on the trail of the unfruitful branch. Now let's look at the indices of an unfruitful branch (Christian). It will be helpful to assess yourself and also know when a fellow Christian needs help. The Bible says, *"My friends, if you see that someone among you is doing something wrong, you must warn them. Those of you who have God's Spirit should warn that person. Show them how to live in a good way." Galatians 6:1 (EASY)*.
When you observe the following, be concerned.
+ Because you are disconnected from Christ, you become self focused and hate to be corrected.
+ Spiritual dryness. There is a deep sense of emptiness and unworthiness in spite of all you are doing to be spiritual.
+ No inner peace
+ Lack of joy. Things that used to give you joy begin to be burdensome like praying and Bible reading.
+ There is emotional exhaustion and you become short tempered.
At this point don't keep to yourself, talk to a mature believer about how you are feeling. The Bible says, *"As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." Proverbs 28:17*.
+ Check yourself. *"Think carefully about how you are living." 2 Corinthians 13:5 (EASY)*.
+ Take steps to reconnect with Jesus; pray more, study the word and get more involved in fellowship.
You must act fast, before you become a prey, as you are very vulnerable at such times. Hear this, *"Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall." 1 Corinthians 10:12 (NKJV)*.

FRUITFULNESS 9

For once, let's look at the branch that did not bear fruits. Metaphorically, it represents Christians who are not manifesting fruits of the Spirit. God loves them *"not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)*.
Not being fruitful has serious implications. It portends the following dangers,
+ You lose the moral right to witness to someone about Christ as your life will be markedly at variance with a christian's life, which is dishonoring to God.
+ It invalidates whatever spiritual gift you are manifesting as people will see you as fake.
+ If you are not manifesting gifts of the Spirit, you must be manifesting fruits of the flesh. You are likely living in sin, at best, secretly.
+ You are disconnected from Christ, *"As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." John 15:4 (NKJV)*
+ If you continue like this, you stand a chance of missing eternity. *"Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He (God) takes away." John 15:2 (NKJV)*.
Beloved you can't continue like this, go back to God, He said, *"Return to Me, and I will return to you,” Malachi 3:7 (NKJV*. Only in returning and abiding in Him can you be fruitful. Don't delay.

FRUITFULNESS 8

It's natural for an investor to desire maximum returns. Ditto with our Father in heaven. His investment in us, is colossal. He gave His only begotten Son. It's legitimate to expect returns in fruitfulness. So He ever wants us to be more fruitful. Hear Him, *"He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit SO THEY WILL PRODUCE EVEN MORE." John 15:2 (NLT)*.
You are fruitful, bravo, but get ready for pruning, for God still expects more.
Pruning is intentionally cutting off of things that hinder more fruitfulness. They might be habits, position, relationships you truly value, unhealthy attachments, hidden sins that hinder more fruitfulness. It's not pleasurable but God is behind it, it's not punishment. When it comes, *"You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ." 2 Timothy 2:3 (NKJV)*. The Bible says, *"If you faint in the day of adversity, Your strength is small." Proverbs 24:10*.
How do you survive it?
+ Stay connected to the vine, Christ. John 15:4.
+ Trust God, let go of those things.
+ Do not resist the process, rest in God's grace. God says *"my grace is sufficient for you" 2 Corinthians 12:9*.
Don't storm or chicken out. If you do, you will miss out on God's purpose. Bottom line, you will become more pleasing to God.

FRUITFULNESS 7

God wants optimum fruitfulness from all of us. He doesn't expect more than you can do in the prevailing circumstances. In the parable of the talents, Mathew 25:14-30, the master's response to he that made five from five and to him that made two from two are the same. *"Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord." Mathew 25: 21 & 23*.
The master's grouse was with the man who did nothing with the one talent he was given. Hear the master, *"You wicked and lazy servant,...Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents" Mathew 25: 26 & 28*
The lessons
+ God want optimum fruitfulness. In this parable, it's one hundred percent. It's not good to operate below installed capacity.
+ In this kingdom, no competition, we are to collaborate and complement each other.
+ Fruitlessness carries consequences. You will lose what you have.
May I ask you,
+ Are you fruitful where you are?
+ Are you operating at optimum capacity?
+ Or are you fruitless?
Meditate on this, till I come your way tomorrow, examine yourself and do the needful.

FRUITFULNESS 6

In the parable of the sower, Mathew 13:1-23, the Bible says, of the yield of the seeds that fell on the good soil, *"some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty." Mathew 13:8*.
Someone once asked, why should I yield thirty fold when others yield a hundredfold
Yield is dependent on,
+ How you take the word of God with sustained interest and determination to walk it out
+ Maturity level of the believer.
+ Depth of understanding.
+ Level of obedience, consistency, and endurance in time of testing.
All these are growth indices which will move a believer from milk drinking to solid food. *"For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right. Solid food is for those who are mature, who through training have the skill to recognize the difference between right and wrong." Hebrews 5:13-14 (NLT)*.
Fruitfulness increases with maturity.
Maturity results from,
+ Working *"hard to show the results of your salvation, obeying God with deep reverence and fear." Philippians 2:12 (NLT)*
+ When you are *'not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord" Romans 12:11*
+ Being a consistent doer of every word of God.
All of these are in your control. Give it your best, because, reward is a function of your output (fruitfulness). Jesus said, *“behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one ACCORDING TO HIS WORK." Revelations 22:12 (NKJV)*.
Give this race your best.

FRUITFULNESS 5

The mandate; be fruitful and multiply Genesis 2:28
Your role; be sure you are fruitful otherwise you are useless. Luke 13:7.
To be fruitful; your heart must be yielded to Christ. Proverbs 23:26
There are two conditions of fruitfulness that are of interest to God.
+ *"By this My Father is glorified that you BEAR MUCH fruit." John 15:8*.
+ *"Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish...THEY SHALL STILL BEAR FRUIT IN OLD AGE; They shall be fresh and flourishing." Psalms 92:13-14 (NKJV)*. For these to happen, the Bible says, *“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." John 15:5*.
How do we abide in Christ?
+ Stay connected and be totally dependent on Christ. Without Him you can do nothing. John 15:5
+ Read and meditate on the word of God always. Colossians 3:16, Joshua 1:8.
+ Obey and live by His commandments. John 14:15.
If you do these, then and only then, will you bear fruits, bear much fruits and be fruitful even at old age. All of these are in your hands. Christ is ever there asking you, *abide in me and I in you. John 15:5*.
What are you doing to fulfill God's purpose for your life? Note, you were made to be fruitful.

FRUITFULNESS 4

These fruits are a result of a collaboration between the believer and the Holy Spirit. Man on his own cannot just get transformed because the Bible says, *“The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? Jeremiah 17:9 (NLT)*. A heart must be surrendered to Christ, providing the enabling conditions for the Holy Spirit to do His work from the inside, that *"causes us to live in a different way" Galatians 5:22 (EASY)*. That different ways of doing things gives you out as a Christian without you telling anybody. That's part of spiritual fruitfulness. Herein is the Vineyard owner, God, pleased as you meet His following desires,
+ *"Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think." Romans 12:2 (NLT)*
+ *Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." Mathew 5:16 (NKJV)*.
If these are not happening with you, the vineyard owner is unhappy, you risk being cut down. Thank God you still have the opportunity to change your ways, as the gardener, sympathizing Jesus has pleaded for one more year. Please, don't take it for granted. Act fast.

FRUITFULNESS 3

What are the fruits expected by the vineyard owner and gardener, who are actually one and the same?
They are not physical, tangible fruit like you will hold an apple. Instead, they are intangible, character traits that are developed in a believer as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit in that believer. The Bible referred to it thus, *"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 (NKJV)*. For a better understanding, hear another version, *"But God's Spirit causes us to live in a different way. We love other people. We are happy and we have peace in our minds. We are patient, kind and good. People can trust us to do what is right. We respect other people and we control ourselves properly. God's Spirit helps us to live in that way. There is no law that says these things are wrong." Galatians 5:22-23 (EASY)*.
Note the following.
+ There are nine items, character traits listed.
+ Though nine are listed, the Bible says, the fruit (not fruits) of the Spirit is... That's because it's a composite pack. All are supposed to be developed in pari passu.
+ There is no law that says these things are wrong. It's not about legality but essentials that show you are Christian. Like fruits on a tree, these traits are visible depicting what you are. By their fruits we shall know them.
I will stop here today, may I ask you, are you bearing correct fruits of the Spirit? Do a self check.

FRUITFULNESS 2

Let's start this discussion on the multidimensional issue of fruitfulness with a parable by the Lord Jesus Christ, It goes thus, *"A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came Finally, he said to his gardener, ‘I’ve waited three years, and there hasn’t been a single fig! Cut it down. It’s just taking up space in the garden.’ “The gardener answered, ‘Sir, give it one more chance. Leave it another year, and I’ll give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then you can cut it down.’ Luke 13:7-9 (NLT)*.
The vineyard owner is justifiably angry and frustrated because the fig tree was not fulfilling purpose. You are made to be fruitful, Genesis 2:28, if you are not, God is displeased. You risk being cut down. But there is mercy in the house sequel to the plea of the gardener. The gardener in our case is Jesus who *"is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us." Romans 8:34 (NLT)*. The plea of the gardener has bought you some time, be sure you don't continue to occupy space for nothing.
