DRAW NEAR TO GOD

The Bible says, *"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you." James 4:8*. It puts nearness to God in our docket as we are to take the first step. This however does not mean nearness in physical terms but being in tune with God true and true.
To draw near to God starts with a personal choice to turn to God in response to His ever subsisting invitation, *"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Mathew 11:28*. This invitation is contextually repeated in the Bible. Some of them are,
*"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Revelation 3:20*.
*"If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me." Jeremiah 29:13 (NLT)*.
*"And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let him who hears say, “Come!” And let him who thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely." Revelations 22:17 (NKJV)*.
They all reflect God's undying love for man which culminated in, *"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16 (NKJV)*.
I am sure you want to be close to God. How have you responded to this invitation expressed in different ways? It's ever open waiting for your action.

WHERE ARE YOU?

*"Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?" Genesis 3:9 (NKJV)*. The question was because Adam was not where God expected to see him. Today is Sunday, you should be in church but you are not, permit me to ask you, child of God where are you?
I have noticed that when men are not where they should be, they are likely engaged in unwholesome activities. Remember David? *"It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him,...But David remained at Jerusalem." 2 Samuel 11:1 (NKJV)*. While idling away on his balcony, he saw a woman taking a bath. So started a gruelling chain of events that made him a fugitive. Don't tell me you are following online because that doesn't satisfy God's injunction *"And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do." Hebrew 10.25 (NLT)*. One way the devil gets at people is to take them off fellowshipping with the Christian community and then strike.
Following online, when you are genuinely constrained, is understandable but it must not replace going for usual church fellowship. If that happens, it means you have an idol you put above God.. God frowns at that, Exodus 20:4. Hear ye the word of God, *"Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: *“Consider your ways!Haggai 1:5 (NKJV)*. What should I do? God says *" return unto Me and I will return unto you." Malachi 3:7*. Do so fast.

JEHOVAH EL ROI

It means "God who sees." The Bible says, *"The eyes of the LORD are in every place, Beholding the evil and the good." Proverbs 15:3*. Nothing escapes His eyes.
This name was first used by Hagar who was pregnant at the time. She despised her madam, Mrs Serah Abraham, who was still waiting. Serah sent her out of the house. She was in distress *"And the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur." Genesis 16:7*. The angel counselled her and gave her an insight to what was ahead of her. In that state of hopelessness she was pleasantly surprised that God saw her and came to her aid. She called God Jehovah El Roi, the God that sees me. *"And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: Genesis 6:13*.
Where am I going? I do not know who this is for, but know that God is seeing you and aware of whatever you are going through. The hidden struggles, the tears, lowliness are all known to Him. Be sure, like He showed up for Hagar He will show up for you. Just *"Be still and know that I am God" Psalms 46:10*. You will testify.

ITCHY EAR SYNDROME.

The Bible says, *"For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear." 2 Timothy 4:3 (NLT)*. That time is now! I call it Itchy Ear syndrome (IES). It's characterized by a desire to follow trending pastors, who speak high sounding grammar, Hebrew, Aramic and Greek as they preach. Their stock in trade is to counter the Bible and stir controversies. If that's you, it means you find the Bible restrictive, not allowing you to satisfy your worldly fantasies. If that's your level, you are only a step away from denying the faith.
A true child of God will take the scripture as inerrant, accept that, *"All Scripture is inspired by God" 2 Timothy 3:16 (NLT)*.
The danger of acquiring the itchy ear syndrome is, soon, you will start sitting in the seat of the scornful.
The antidote to falling into the IES is, run away from any message that does not point you to Christ nor challenge your faith. Instead it tends to show the preacher's academic knowledge Apostle Paul said, *"we preach Christ crucified" 1 Corinthians 1:23*.
May I round up by saying the Christian race is an individual one and *"we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body" 2 Corinthians 5:10*. No excuse will be acceptable. Even that your Pastor will also appear for himself. Intermittently, appraise yourself. *"Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he falls" 1 Corinthians 10:12*.

So many of these doctrines are flying around that I can continue ad infinium. I read of one today by a very popular pastor, which says we are not supposed to be confessing our sins every time because Jesus has paid for the sins. To him, we misunderstand 1 John 1:8-9. I won't bother to take that on but I want to say emphatically, if you won't be deceived, THE ONUS IS ON YOU. The following will be helpful.
1) Be an avid student of the Bible, Joshua 1:8. In that way *"you will know the truth and the truth will set you free." John 8:32* from the outright lies and half truths of the false teachers.
2) Live a life of holiness. False teachers peddle teachings that appeal to the flesh and excuse sin eg, sin can't take you to hell.
3) Don't be intimidated by the credentials or popularity of the Pastor. Hear this, *"I said it once; I’ll say it again: If anyone, REGARDLESS OF REPUTATION OR CREDENTIALS, preaches something other than what you received originally, let him be cursed." Galatians 1:6-9 (MSG)*.
4) Test their teachings against known biblical principles of holiness, salvation through Christ.
5) Stay connected to a good community of Christians, Hebrews 10:25.
6) Beware of churches seeking crowds at the expense of sound doctrines. Their plan, *"By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words." 2 Peter 2:3 (NKJV)*.
7) Live with eternity in view, *"work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Philippians 2:12*.
I repeat, if you won't be deceived, it's in your hands. So, *“Awake, you who sleep,...See then that you walk circumspectly,... redeeming the time, because the days are evil." Ephesians 5:14-16 (NKJV)*.

Once saved, saved forever, is another fallacy being preached by these preachers. Dubbed hyper grace, I can't find it in the Bible. It's a doctrine from the pits of hell meant to take people from church to hell. People active in church but frolicking in sin and the world system, hoping to make eternity with Christ because they once confessed Christ as Lord and saviour. But the Bible says, *"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." 1 John 2:15 (NKJV)*.
Saved and saved forever can't stand where the Bible says, *"However, if righteous people turn from their righteous behavior and start doing sinful things and act like other sinners,...All their righteous acts will be forgotten, and they will die for their sins." Ezekiel 18:24 (NLT)*. This is self explanatory. Other supporting scriptures are, Jesus said, *"But he who endures to the end shall be saved. Mathew 24:14 (NKJV)*. So even if a person genuinely joined the race but dropped midway, for whatever reason, he has not endured to the end and cannot be saved. Their doctrine makes a nonsense of God's call, *“Be holy, for I am holy.” 1 Peter 1:16 (NKJV)*
Beloved, beware of wolves in sheep in clothing. That's what these heretical preachers are.

From the discourse so far, it's clear, a sinner cannot inherit the kingdom of God.
The scripture that says, *"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us" 1 John 1:8 (NKJV)*. is not excusing sin. It only acknowledges that, as humans we might fall into sin once in a while. Should that happen, *"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1.9 (NKJV)*. These two scriptures must not be seen as a licence to indulge in sin because you can always confess. if you adopt that position, you have ignored Romans 6:1-2. Then you are no longer of God because the Bible says, *"Whoever has been born of God does not sin,...he cannot sin, because he has been born of God." 1 John 3:9 (NKJV)*. This is what distinguishes a child of God from a child of the devil *"So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God" 1 John 3:10 (NKJV)*. Such a person who now sees nothing wrong with sinning is of the devil who obviously can't enter heaven.
That settles the issue of, "sin cannot take one to hell." Hear this *“Let everyone who names the name of Christ depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:19 (NKJV)*.

Flowing from yesterday, as a new creature, the old things the Bible says have passed away is your life of sin. Remember, we ALL fell short of the glory of God because of our sins, Romans 3:23. Then Christ died to save us. Then someone says you can still live in sin after confessing Christ, and make heaven. Why did Jesus have to die then? Hear this because we were saved by grace, *"Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! Romans 6:1-2 (NKJV)*.
On the vexed issue of sin cannot take anyone to hell, hear the Bible, *"Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, [10] or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 (NLT)*. A similar list is in Galatians 5:19-21, Ephesians 5:5 and Revelations 22:15. Check them up in your Bible. Take note of this warning, *"Let no one deceive you with empty words." Ephesians 5:6 (NKJV)*. Whether the proponents of the doctrine of once saved, saved forever be professors of theology, Bishops, Archbishops or the Pope, let no one deceive you. The onus is on you to protect yourself against spiritual poisons like this. Read and study the scriptures for yourself.
"Pastor are you sure you are not the one missing it, because the Bible says, *"If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us." 1 John 1:8 (NKJV)?"*. I will put that in the proper context tomorrow.

One of the winds of doctrines flying around and gaining traction is, once saved, saved for ever. By this they mean, once you give your life to Christ, whatever you do thereafter cannot invalidate your salvation. They go further to say, sin cannot take a man to hell, rejecting or renouncing Christ is the only thing that can take a man to hell. They call it hyper grace. I cannot find it in the Bible.
I make bold to say nothing is further from the truth than this. It's a doctrine from the pits of hell designed to drag souls to hell. I don't know the Bible verses they are misinterpreting to arrive at their conclusion but I will present to you what the Bible says.
The Bible says, *"Verily Verily I say unto you, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3*. This process starts when the Holy Spirit convicts a man of his sin and seeks God's forgiveness on the basis of Christ's work of salvation. The Bible puts it thus, *"And when He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment." John 16:8 (NLT)*. When this happens, you will confess and renounce your sins, accept Jesus as Lord and saviour. Hear this, *"If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." Romans 10:9 (NLT)* Consequently, *"if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)*. Then you become a child of God, John 1:12.
This is a convenient place to stop today.

False teachers are vital instruments Satan uses to deceive people. Its an age long instrument. For example, hear Apostle Paul, *"Hymenaeus and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is already past; and they overthrow the faith of some." 2 Timothy 2:17-18 (NKJV)*. In the same manner, popular Pastors are preaching all kinds of heresies. I have heard messages like, God is not in heaven, sin cannot take you to hell, once saved, you are saved forever, there is no heaven we are going. One preacher referring to some verses in the book of Isaiah, declared that Prophet Isaiah was confused. There are many other such pronouncements from popular Pastors. What bothers me is the way people at such preaching sessions yell in approval of such messages.
I am not out to denigrate any pastor hence no name mentioned but to set the matters straight using the Bible.
But let me say, these trends will continue because the Bible says, *"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables." 2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NKJV)*. That's exactly where we are now. If you will survive, take heed unto yourself. One way to do that is to be like the Bereans who took time to cross check the veracity of Apostle Paul preaching. Acts 17:11.
You must do that for yourself. Start today.
