Tinubu needs second term to complete reforms – Keyamo

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on Monday urged members of the ruling All Progressives Congress to remain focused on re-electing President Bola Tinubu in 2027, stressing that the President needs a second term to complete his economic reforms.

Speaking as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, warned that it would be “tragic” for another administration to halt the fiscal and economic policies currently being implemented by the Tinubu-led government The most profound thing I will say here today is that every single APC member in this country today should be concentrating on the re-election of President Bola Tinubu, irrespective of whether it affects your personal interest or not,” he said.

Keyamo further explained, “It will be tragic for any government to come in 2027 and stop these reforms. This is what has happened in the past where you have all kinds of inchoate policies being implemented.”

Tension gripped Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Wednesday as farmers took to the streets to protest the alleged kil*** of five people by suspected herdsmen at Aba Oyinbo community in Akure North Local Government Area.

It was gathered that the assailants invaded the community in the early hours of Wednesday, opening fire on the victims.

The fresh kil*** come barely two weeks after no fewer than 14 people were reportedly murd**** by gunmen in four communities—Ademekun, Aba Pastor, Aba Sunday, and Alajido—all in the same local government area.

Angry protesters stormed the Governor’s Office in large numbers, chanting solidarity songs and calling on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to urgently intervene and halt the unrelenting attacks on farmers.

The Federal Government, on Wednesday, said President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in River State was timely and meant to avert an implosion in the state.

The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, stated this while briefing State House Correspondents at the A*o Rock Villa, Abuja.

“We have about two years into the administration in the state.

“Now, when do you think he (President Tinubu) should have come in? Is it when everything has been destroyed? I don’t think so. “I think the President has acted timeously. He has given the opportunity to all the parties involved to make amends. Before then, he had to assemble them, and he had tried to mediate,” he stated.

Tinubu had on Tuesday declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.

Home raid: Igboho drags DSS to S’Court over N20bn damages

Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal’s ruling that nullified the N20bn damages awarded to him against the Department of State Services and the Attorney General of the Federation.

Igboho initially sued the AGF, the DSS, and the DSS Director in Oyo State, demanding N5.5bn in damages over the July 2021 raid on his Ibadan residence, during which two people were reportedly killed and 12 others arrested.

In September 2021, an Oyo State High Court ruled in his favor, awarding N20bn in damages against the AGF and the DSS, holding them liable for the invasion.

However, in August 2022, the Court of Appeal in Ibadan overturned the decision.

Gangs of Lagos’ producers to apologise over Eyo portrayal

The Isale Eko Descendants Union has expressed satisfaction with the court ruling ordering producers of the movie ‘Gangs of Lagos’ to apologise to the union for how Eyo masquerade was portrayed in the popular movie.

A Lagos high court approved the settlement terms between the IDU and the producers of the movie over the controversial portrayal of the Eyo masquerade in the film.

Directed by Jade Osiberu and produced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, the movie was released on Amazon’s Prime Video on April 7, 2023.

The film attracted backlash over the “defamatory depiction” of Isale Eko as a den of criminals and the Eyo masquerade as a gang of murd****ers The union took legal action and sought N10bn in damages against Amazon and the film’s producers.

In her ruling, according to a legal document dated February 20, the presiding judge, Justice Idowu Alakija, stated that the parties involved agreed to resolve all disputes concerning the film amicably.

The Attorney General of Lagos and the Lagos State Film and Video Censors Board were listed as first and second respondents in the lawsuit.

A street sweeper working with the Lagos State Waste Management Agency has spoken out against alleged exploitation by her superiors, citing poor earnings and harsh working conditions.

In a viral video circulating on social media, the sweeper, who did not reveal her name, accused her supervisors of shortchanging workers and failing to implement the approved salary structure.

She alleged that despite reports that their salary had been increased to N85,000 since August 2024, sweepers continued to receive N30,000 for months.

According to her, the workers were also left to bear the cost of their work tools without any allowance. “We buy up to three brooms at N1000 each in a month but you have been paying us 30,000 for almost six months. We thought it would change last January but it didn’t. Even the N30,000 is not being paid on time until the 13 or 15th of the following month.”

A 55-year-old Nigerian woman, June Ashimola, who was falsely declared dead, has appeared via video link from Nigeria before the UK High Court to prevent a convicted fraudster from seizing her £350,000 home in Woolwich, southeast London.

Ashimola was reportedly declared dead in February 2019, sparking a protracted legal battle over her estate.

However, she presented herself before Deputy Master John Linwood, asserting that she was alive and was a victim of a scam.

According to DailyMail on Wednesday, the court heard that following her wrongful declaration of death, power of attorney over her estate, which consisted primarily of a house, was granted to Ms. Ruth Samuel, acting on behalf of Bakare Lasisi, who falsely claimed to have married Ashimola in 1993. However, the judge ruled that the supposed marriage was a fabrication and that Lasisi did not exist.

According to court records, Ashimola left the UK for Nigeria in 2018 and had not returned since.

By October 2022, power of attorney had been awarded to Samuel on behalf of the fictitious Lasisi, who laid claim to Ashimola’s estate.
