PLATEAU YOUTH COUNCIL CONDEMNS THE ACTION OF MISCREANTS IN JOS NORTH LGA, CALLS ON SECURITY AGENTS TO GO AFTER THEM.

The attention of the leadership of the Plateau Youth Council has been drawn to the activities of some criminals who went around vandalizing properties of individuals in some parts of Jos North while carrying Russian flags in a bit to take advantage of the most peaceful protest across the country.

These miscreants to the best of our knowledge are not true Plateau Youths or possibly sponsored to disrupt the peace of the state.

While we sympathize with those whose properties were destroyed, we strongly call on all relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute these criminals without further delay to serve as a deterrent to others who may want to do same.

As the leadership of the Youths on the Plateau, we commend very sincerely, our dear plateau Youths for showcasing Plateau to the World for the most peaceful conduct during the protest and urge you all to remain law abiding and do everything within the armbit of the law.

Conclusively, we wish to commend the Plateau State Government for the swift action in declaring 24hr curfew in the affected areas to enable security agencies fetch out the miscreants.

Press Release

The attention of the leadership of the Plateau State Youth Council has been drawn to the unfortunate shooting of Joseph Jelmang, a promising youth from Bokkos LGA by a military officer. The officer who is identified as 'Godwin' was said to be drunk while celebrating his birthday which led to the unfortunate sporadic shooting.

In it's totality, we condemn the unprofessional conduct of the officer in question and wish to stronly caution other security personnel to conduct themselves professionally and ensure such does not repeat itself for whatever reason. Bokkos is one local Government that has been going through a lot when it comes to security challenges and this act is the least that the Council will expect at this material time. While we condemn this unprofessional conduct in its entirety, we wish to commend the effort of the military under the STF Commander Maj. Gen. AE Abubakar, for swiftly responding by arresting and detaining the officer in question and also visiting the family of the victim without any delay against the false report that civilians were arrested. As a council, we shall follow up very keenly to ensure that the case is treated with all seriousness and necessary sanctions metted on the officer.

On behalf of the entire Youths of Plateau State, we sympathize very deeply with the family of the victim and pray fervently for the repose of his soul with prayers that such will not happen again.

To the community, we commend you for not taking the laws into your hand and urge you to remain calm while we do our best to follow up the matter to the latter.

Conclusively, we call on members of the public, particularly association leaders to ensure that every information is verified before dishing them out to avoid misleading the public especially at this material time that we are in dire need of peace in Bokkos and by extension, Plateau State.
