Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo , has written an emotional and deeply personal tribute to his predecessor and mentor, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, as the former governor marks his 50th birthday today, June 18, 2025.
In a moving message that reflects his personal journey and transformation, Governor Ododo described Bello as a destiny helper who rewrote the story of a young man raised in poverty by his grandmother and turned him into a symbol of hope for millions.
"Your Excellency, My Mentor, My Leader Sir,
Today, I struggle to find the right words, because how do you describe a man who completely rewrote your story, who looked beyond your background and saw destiny instead of limitations?" the tribute began.
Governor Ododo recounted his humble beginnings, growing up with hardship and uncertainty, never imagining that he would one day occupy the highest seat in his home state. He credited Yahaya Bello for identifying his potential long before he could see it himself.
"You changed my story. You changed my name. You used my life to declare to the world that the child of a nobody can become somebody when men of destiny like you are placed by God in leadership," he wrote.
The governor reflected on how Bello supported his education, gave him unprecedented opportunities while still a student, and ultimately chose him as a worthy successor, entrusting him with the legacy of a transformed Kogi.
“At 50, you have already governed Kogi State with honour and impact for eight solid years. What else can we call that, if not divine favour? You are a testimony of Allah’s purpose and grace,” the tribute continued.
Ododo offered heartfelt prayers for Bello, wishing him long life, divine health, and a future filled with greater influence and fulfilment.
“May God preserve you in health and peace. May your influence stretch beyond imagination. May His purpose for your life find full expression. You are more than a Boss, you are a Leader, and a Leader with a heart so pure, so rare.”
Concluding the message, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his loyalty and gratitude, calling Bello “the Father of the New Kogi State” and pledging to continue to honour his legacy.
“Happy Birthday to the Father of the New Kogi State. May your light shine forever.”
