"Our Lives Amount to Nothing If We Cannot Create Impact in Our Community" - Victor Ikere.

By Dominion Steve Buzugbe,
De-Crown Media.

An erudite scholar and former Local Government chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Victor Ikere has told the Ekwuoma youth that life amounts to nothing if they cannot make a meaningful impact in the community.

He made this declaration while delivering a lecture titled "Education, the bedrock for self and community development", at the 2022 Annual General Conference of the Ekwuoma Community.

The successful entrepreneur charged the Ekwuoma youth to learn how to give back to the community through community service and development efforts which according to him, are some of the skills embedded in education.

Highlighting the roles of education in self-development, Ikere said education shapes the mind, transforms an individual's thoughts and gives him/her a better understanding of the society he/she lives in.

According to him, "Education is the basis upon which our freedom can be guaranteed because when we are educated, we will know our rights to be able to defend ourselves against injustice."

He said that the best tool to unlock the full potential of the human mind which makes possible all development achievements, from health advances, and agricultural innovations to efficient public administration and private sector growth, is education.

"For a community to enjoy the full benefits of education of its people, it must be ready to unleash the potentials of the human mind." He noted.

Speaking further, he stated that education in itself is not useful unless it has a positive impact on society.
"Our education must have the potency to make our community and our world habitable. We owe this as a duty to ourselves and the other members of the community. This is the whole essence of giving back to the community through community service and development efforts.

"My people, may I put it to us that our lives amount to nothing if we cannot create any impact on our community. If our presence is not felt, our absence will make no difference. So as you strive to get educated, and to be the best you can be, you must realize that the ultimate goal is to give back to your community."

Pride and Gratitude: Ebie Honoured as UNIDEL Makes History with First Graduates.

February 21st 2026 was a day filled with genuine pride and celebration at the University of Delta, Agbor, as the university marked its very first convocation ceremony. The air was thick with excitement as It was a historic day for the young university. Right in the middle of all the joy, a familiar and respected figure, Chiedu Ebie Esq, the Chairman, NDDC Board, was called forward to receive a special honour.

The university community, from the Governing Council and Senate right down to the staff and students, wanted to say a formal thank you. He was presented with an Award of Recognition, not as a formality, but as a heartfelt nod to his strong belief in their vision. It was for his quiet but persistent advocacy and the steady support he had given to help this institution find its feet and aim for excellence.

When Ebie stepped up to receive the award, he was clearly touched. He did not just give a speech; he spoke from the heart. He told the gathering how much the gesture meant to him, seeing it as a sign that his efforts to lift education and help the institution grow had not gone unnoticed. This recognition, he said with a warm smile, "shows that the university truly values my commitment and support." He made a quiet promise then and there to keep pushing for initiatives that strengthen education and build a lasting legacy for the university.

The whole event, however, was really about the stars of the day: the pioneer students. Watching this first cohort of graduates walk across the stage was an emotional milestone for everyone. It was proof that the dream was working. The campus buzzed with dignitaries, proud lecturers, excited families, and friends, all there to witness what felt like the official birth of a new chapter for the university.

For many looking on, seeing those first students graduate was not just about individual success. It was a powerful symbol of what collective vision and hard work can achieve. It spoke volumes about the resilience of the university's leadership and everyone who had a hand in getting it off the ground.

Barr. Ebie himself made sure to praise that leadership, acknowledging their foresight and dedication. He reminded everyone in attendance that it takes truly visionary people to build an academic home that will stand the test of time.

In the end, the day was about more than just handing out degrees. It was a celebration of a dream realized, a mark of how far the University of Delta has come, and a bright signal of the respected place it is carving out for itself in Nigeria’s educational story.

UNIDEL Showcases Innovative Biodigester Project Ahead of Maiden Convocation.

Agbor, February 20, 2026

— The University of Delta (UNIDEL) has once again demonstrated its strong commitment to innovative research and sustainable development through a groundbreaking project unveiled during its research exhibition on Friday.

The exhibition, held as part of activities marking the institution’s historic maiden convocation ceremony scheduled for Saturday, February 21, 2026, featured remarkable contributions from various faculties. Among the standout projects was an innovative biodigester developed by the Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Sciences, designed for the production of clean cooking gas.

The project was developed under the supervision of Dr. Thelma Konyeme, a dedicated lecturer in the department, in collaboration with other researchers. The biodigester utilizes palm oil mill effluent (POME), a wastewater byproduct generated during palm oil processing, as its primary feedstock.

Rich in organic matter, POME serves as an ideal substrate for anaerobic digestion, a natural biological process in which microorganisms break down organic compounds in the absence of oxygen to produce biogas. The resulting biogas, composed largely of methane (typically between 50 and 70 percent), is a renewable and efficient fuel suitable for cooking purposes.

By converting what is often considered an environmental pollutant into a valuable energy resource, the innovation provides a cleaner alternative to traditional firewood and fossil fuel-based cooking gas. It also addresses pressing environmental concerns by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly uncontrolled methane release from open waste ponds, and minimizing the ecological impact of untreated POME discharge.

Speaking at the exhibition, attendees commended the Department of Biological Sciences for its practical approach to solving real-world environmental and energy challenges. The biodigester project reflects the university’s dedication to aligning academic research with national and global sustainable development goals.

As UNIDEL prepares to celebrate its first convocation ceremony, the success of this innovation underscores the institution’s growing reputation as a hub of excellence in science, research, and community impact.

The university community has been widely congratulated for what many describe as a significant milestone in its journey toward academic distinction and societal relevance.

In a resounding demonstration of unity, loyalty, and grassroots strength, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 4 Congress, held earlier today (Tuesday, 18th February) at Alihagwu Ward 4, successfully ratified Mr. Onyebuchi Nwoko as the duly recognized Chairman of the ward through a widely endorsed consensus process.

The congress recorded an impressive turnout of committed party faithful who gathered in solidarity to reaffirm the ideals and enduring structure of the APC in Ward 4. The atmosphere was vibrant yet orderly, reflecting the discipline and political maturity that have become hallmarks of the ward’s leadership.

Mr. Onyebuchi Nwoko, a vibrant and visionary young leader with a proven record of grassroots mobilization and unwavering dedication to party principles, emerged as Chairman through unanimous affirmation by members. His emergence was not merely an electoral outcome but a collective endorsement of competence, loyalty, and continuity. De-crown Media reports.

The exercise was peacefully conducted under the supervision of accredited local government agents, Mr. Daniel Omoruyi and Mr. Chidi Mekwunye. The process was transparent, hitch-free, and reflective of the democratic values the party continues to uphold at all levels.

The highlight of the event was the moment Mr. Nwoko was called forward for recognition. A wave of celebration swept across the venue as women broke into melodious songs of affirmation, while members applauded enthusiastically in open declaration of their confidence in his leadership. It was a symbolic moment that registered the unity of purpose within Ward 4.

In his address, respected party stakeholder, Mr. Stevenson Ikpade, expressed profound appreciation to members of the ward for their overwhelming turnout and steadfast commitment. He described those present as the true pillars and foundational builders of the APC in Ward 4, emphasizing that the party’s structure was not built overnight but through years of resilience, sacrifice, and loyalty.

He reaffirmed the ward’s resolve to protect the integrity of the party structure while continuing to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence. According to him, the decision to adopt a consensus approach was borne out of wisdom, maturity, and the collective desire to avoid unnecessary conflict, thereby strengthening internal cohesion.

Mr. Ikpade further used the occasion to reaffirm Ward 4’s unwavering support for the President ahead of the 2027 general elections. He declared that the ward remains solidly aligned with the President’s mandate and committed to sustaining the momentum of progress, stability, and national development under his leadership.
Also speaking at the congress, Mr. God Ibe commended party members who have remained consistent and loyal despite political pressures. He encouraged continued faithfulness, unity of purpose, and resistance to divisive tendencies that could undermine the progress achieved over the years. He stressed that political endurance and integrity remain the cornerstones of sustainable party growth.

In his speech, the newly ratified Chairman, Mr. Onyebuchi Nwoko, expressed deep gratitude to members for the trust and confidence reposed in him. He described his emergence as a call to greater service rather than personal victory. He pledged to operate an inclusive leadership style that prioritizes unity, grassroots engagement, and the strengthening of party structures at the ward level.

He assured members that under his leadership, Ward 4 would consolidate its position as a stronghold of the APC, deepen mobilization efforts, and actively contribute to the broader success of the party at the local government, state, and national levels, while calling for support.

TAKE POSSESSION OF YOUR TERRITORY: PASTOR FRIDAY CHARGES WORSHIPPERS AT SUNDAY SERVICE

By Dominion Steve Buzugbe
De-crown Media Reports

Pastor Friday Okolie, the General Overseer of Christ Reigns Assembly, on Sunday delivered a stirring sermon titled “Taking Possession of Your Territory,” urging worshippers to embrace personal responsibility, determination, and spiritual maturity as the true foundations for a productive new year.

In his message, the G.O. emphasized that a new year does not become meaningful simply because the calendar has changed. Rather, he noted that the year only becomes productive when individuals deliberately work with it. Drawing from agrarian imagery, Pastor Okolie explained that clearing a field without planting any seed will still result in barrenness, stressing that no harvest can be expected where nothing has been sown.

He challenged the congregation with a critical question: “What will you invest to see the year you expect?” According to him, miracles do not replace diligence, and progress does not come from passivity. He warned against folding one’s hands in anticipation of breakthroughs, noting that “nothing comes from nothing,” and that determination remains the key that unlocks human potential and prevents failure. He added that the new year will only favour those who are resolute in drawing profit from it.

Pastor Okolie also cautioned worshippers to remain vigilant against distractions that may come in the form of people, doubts, or unfavourable circumstances. He urged them not to succumb to such diversions or allow challenges to weaken their resolve. Speaking against negative confessions, he advised members not to speak defeat over their efforts, reminding them that words carry power.

Quoting from 1 Corinthians 13:11, “When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put away childish things,” the pastor called on believers to mature in perseverance and resilience. He described frequent quitting as a sign of immaturity and encouraged the congregation to develop endurance in the face of adversity.

In a further exhortation, He urged worshippers to speak to their mountains rather than speak about them, commanding their challenges through faith, elevated thinking, and purposeful action. He emphasized the importance of committing one’s work to a clear purpose and warned against speaking negatively about one’s labor or calling.

The sermon concluded with a powerful charge, reminding the congregation that their “territory” is already waiting. He encouraged them to cultivate it diligently, plant the right seeds, guard their ground, and remain determined to reap the harvest.

The message was received with deep reflection and applause, as many described it as timely and motivating for navigating the demands and expectations of the new year.

EDUCATION KEY TO A BETTER TOMORROW — NONUM TELLS ALIONYE UNIZIK ALUMNI

By Dominion Steve Buzugbe
De-Crown media Report

The importance of functional and effective education as a catalyst for personal, economic, and societal development took center stage at the End-of-Year Get-Together of the Abavo Alionye UNIZIK Alumni Association, held at Udomi in Abavo, as Engr. Dr. Ernest Oyemndu Nonum delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “Building a Strong Foundation for a Better Tomorrow by Acquiring a Functional and Effective Education.”

In his lecture, Engr. Dr. Nonum described education as the cornerstone of societal progress and individual empowerment, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when learning systems go beyond theory to address real-life challenges. He noted that investing in education today is a deliberate step toward securing a prosperous, equitable, and stable future.

According to him, a functional education must be practical, relevant, and adaptable, equipping learners with employable skills, entrepreneurial capacity, and problem-solving abilities suited to an ever-changing technological and social environment. He added that education becomes truly meaningful only when it prepares individuals to respond effectively to contemporary challenges.

He further explained that effective education is measured by outcomes, not intentions. Such a system, he said, is driven by quality curriculum design, competent and motivated teachers, inclusive learning environments, and continuous assessment mechanisms that enhance teaching and learning processes.

Highlighting the broader impact of education, Dr. Nonum emphasized its role in personal development, noting that education fosters critical thinking, ethical values, social responsibility, and lifelong learning. He stated that educated individuals are better equipped to make informed decisions and adapt to changing realities.

On the economic front, the guest lecturer said education remains a major driver of productivity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. He explained that nations with strong education systems are better positioned to compete globally, as a skilled workforce stimulates growth and attracts investment.

Dr. Nonum also underscored the role of education in promoting social cohesion, stating that educated citizens are more likely to participate actively in governance, embrace cultural diversity, and contribute to peaceful coexistence. He added that access to quality education helps reduce inequality by providing opportunities for all segments of society.

He, however, identified several challenges confronting the realization of functional and effective education, including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, teacher shortages, limited professional development, the digital divide, and inconsistent education policies across regions.

To address these challenges, he recommended increased investment in education infrastructure, robust teacher training programs, integration of technology into learning systems, inclusive and sustainable policy reforms, and active community participation in supporting schools and learners.

In his concluding remarks, Engr. Dr. Nonum reiterated that the future of humanity depends largely on how societies prioritize and sustain their education systems, urging stakeholders to see education as a strategic investment capable of driving personal fulfillment, economic prosperity, and social harmony.

The lecture and associated activities were well received by members and guests, who commended the organizers for a successful and impactful end-of-year gathering.

The event was lively and engaging, with Dr. Ikere Victor energizing the audience through his remarks on the microphone, adding vibrancy to the end-of-year session. The programme reached its climax with the formal dissolution of the interim executive committee of the association, followed immediately by the inauguration of the newly appointed executive, an exercise conducted by Engr. Barr. Innocent Okoh, who administered the oath of office to the new leadership, marking the beginning of a new administrative chapter for the Abavo Alionye UNIZIK Alumni Association.
