Title: *The Promise He Broke***
The evening air was heavy, like it knew something was about to change.
“Amara, please… don’t go.”
Tunde’s voice trembled as he held her wrist gently, almost afraid she would disappear if he let go.
Amara looked at him, her suitcase standing beside her like a silent witness.
“This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, Tunde. A job abroad… a fresh start. You know how hard I’ve worked for this.”
“I know,” he said quickly, stepping closer. “I know, and I’m proud of you. But what about us? What about everything we’ve built?”
She hesitated. That word—*us*—always softened her.
“You can come later,” she said quietly. “We’ll make it work.”
Tunde shook his head, more desperate now. “No… long distance will ruin us. I can’t lose you, Amara. Stay. Just stay with me. I promise you… I’ll marry you. We’ll build our future here. Together.”
Silence stretched between them.
“Marriage?” she whispered, searching his face.
“I swear,” he said, placing his hand over his heart. “You’re the only one I want. Just give me time. Stay… for me.”
Amara looked at her ticket… then at him. Slowly, she picked up the ticket, tore it in half, and let the pieces fall.
“I’m choosing you, Tunde,” she said softly.
He pulled her into a tight embrace, relief flooding his face.
“You won’t regret this. I promise.”

**Two Years Later**
Amara sat on the edge of her bed, staring at her phone. Three missed calls. Five unread messages.
No reply.
“Where are you, Tunde?” she whispered.
He had been distant lately. Busy, he said. Always busy. But something felt off.
Her phone buzzed. A message from a mutual friend.
> “Have you spoken to Tunde? I heard he traveled out yesterday…”
Her heart dropped.
“Traveled?” she muttered, confusion turning to panic. She dialed his number again.
*Switched off.*
“No… no, that’s not possible.”
She opened social media, her fingers shaking. And there it was.
A picture.
Tunde. At the airport. Smiling. Passport in hand.

No mention of her.
No goodbye.
No explanation.
Just… gone
