Issues Fresh Operational Guidelines for Officers — Edema Warns Against Indiscipline

The Director of Operations of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority Destma, Engr. Francis Edema, has issued a new set of directives aimed at strengthening discipline and professionalism within the agency.

In an internal address tagged “DESTMA Prep Talk”, Engr. Edema emphasized the need for officers to strictly comply with operational standards and exhibit exemplary conduct while discharging their duties.

Below are the key guidelines outlined:

1. Dress Code

Officers must strictly adhere to the approved dress code at all times, as appearance communicates the agency’s professionalism and public image.

2. Politeness and Civility

Personnel are expected to interact with road users courteously, addressing offenders in a calm, respectful, and non-confrontational manner.

3. Answering Calls

All officers are mandated to answer every phone call, as the importance of the caller or the information cannot be predetermined.

4. Absenteeism and Lateness

Regular attendance and punctuality are compulsory. Absence without official permission will not be condoned.

5. Mode of Operation

Patrol teams must follow standard procedures when apprehending offenders:

Position patrol vehicles strategically.

Park safely to block the offending vehicle if necessary.

Clearly and politely brief the driver about their offense.

6. Respect for Senior Officers

Edema stressed that all officers must respect higher-ranking officials. Any act of insubordination will attract disciplinary action. He also reminded officers to remain humble regardless of their connections or influence.

7. Obedience and Teamwork

Personnel are expected to obey team leaders, while leaders are encouraged to listen to their subordinates, as contributions from junior officers may offer valuable insights.

Engr. Edema noted that adherence to these directives is crucial to enhancing efficiency, discipline, and public trust in DESTMA’s operations.

: TikTok Star Peller Recounts How He Retrieved ₦300k Gift From Kolu Over Lack of Appreciation

sensation Peller has sparked widespread reactions after narrating how he used a clever tactic to retrieve ₦300,000 he initially gifted Kolu, a former signee of musician Portable, due to what he described as a lack of gratitude.

According to Peller, Kolu had sent his bank details requesting a birthday gift. Peller obliged and transferred ₦300,000, sharing the transaction screenshot with him. However, he said Kolu failed to acknowledge or appreciate the gesture even after six minutes had passed.

The TikTok creator added that shortly afterward, Kolu went online to boast, claiming he had received money from him — despite having already refunded the cash.

: Police Officer Orders Motorist To Remove Navy Sticker Amid Questions Over Legality of Military Emblems on Civilian Vehicles

A video circulating on social media captures the moment a police officer ordered a motorist to remove a Nigerian Navy sticker from his vehicle, sparking public debate over whether civilians are permitted to use military emblems.

The incident, which has since gone viral, shows the officer insisting that the sticker should not be displayed on a private car. The motorist, however, questioned the directive, arguing that military stickers are often seen as a form of support for the armed forces.

Security experts note that while many Nigerians use military, paramilitary, or security agency stickers to show solidarity, such items can also be misused for impersonation or to evade law enforcement checks. Regulations generally discourage civilians from displaying official military insignia unless properly authorized.

The Nigerian Police Force and the Armed Forces are yet to issue formal statements on the incident.

Court Rejects Nnamdi Kanu’s Request for Transfer From Sokoto Prison

A Federal High Court has rejected the request filed by the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, seeking to be transferred from the Sokoto Correctional Centre to another facility.

Kanu, who is facing terrorism-related charges, argued in his application that his current place of detention posed concerns for his safety and legal access. However, the court dismissed the request, ruling that the defence failed to provide sufficient grounds to warrant a transfer.

The court maintained that the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) is capable of ensuring the safety and welfare of the detainee, adding that prison transfers must be based on compelling and verifiable reasons.

Kanu’s legal team is expected to decide on their next legal steps following the ruling.

Coup Attempt Foiled in Benin Republic, President Talon Safe

A coup attempt in Benin Republic was swiftly foiled early this morning after a group of about ten soldiers stormed the national television station in an effort to seize power.

The soldiers, identifying themselves as the Military Committee for Refoundation (CMR), appeared on state TV where they announced the removal of President Patrice Talon, dissolved all government institutions, and declared the suspension of the country’s constitution. They also named Lt.-Col. Pascal Tigri as head of the supposed new military authority.

Shortly after the broadcast, reports emerged that the coup had been neutralized. According to government officials, the attempt was led by Lt.-Col. Tigri, who has since been subdued.

The presidential office confirmed to AFP that President Talon is safe and that loyal military forces have regained control of key locations.

> “This is a small group of people who only control the television,” the presidency stated. “The regular army is regaining control. The city and the country are completely secure.”

President Talon, who has been in office since 2016, is expected to step down next April following the presidential election.

: Peter Obi Pledges ₦4.7M To Fund NECO Fees for 148 Inmates in Anambra Correctional Centres

Former Anambra State Governor, Mr. Peter Obi, has vowed to pay the ₦4,741,400 required for 148 inmates sitting for the ongoing NECO examinations across correctional centres in Anambra State, ensuring they are not disqualified due to financial constraints.

The inmates, through their representatives, had appealed for urgent assistance after NECO indicated they would be barred from continuing the exams beyond Monday unless their fees were settled. The examination body agreed to allow them proceed once payment is made.

Breakdown of the fees shows:

₦30,050 exam fee per candidate

₦2,000 logistics per candidate

Candidates distributed as follows: Awka (50), Onitsha (36), Nnewi (25), Aguata (37)

Obi, moved by their plea, assured that he would personally guarantee the payment while mobilizing additional support from friends and well-meaning Nigerians. He emphasized that education and skills acquisition remain powerful tools for rehabilitation and reintegration.

“Correctional centres should be places of genuine reformation, not just punishment,” Obi said, stressing that the inmates deserve a chance to rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to society.

He also recalled his visit to California State University, Sacramento, where programs like Project Rebound assist formerly incarcerated individuals in reintegration — an experience he said reinforced his commitment to inclusive leadership that values every human life.

Obi further questioned whether inmates in other states receive similar access to educational opportunities, urging government institutions nationwide to prioritize learning and rehabilitation within correctional facilities.

He ended with his signature assurance: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
