: Court Remands Woman in Prison After Allegedly Taking Children, Changing Their Names and Disobeying Custody Order
A court in Jos has reportedly remanded a woman in prison after she allegedly took her three children from their father’s home, relocated them to Enugu, changed their names and repeatedly refused to comply with court orders.
According to reports, the woman, whose name was withheld, was married to a Yoruba man, also unnamed, and they have three children together. The family reportedly lived in Jos before the marriage broke down following prolonged disagreements.
The woman allegedly took the children to her village in Enugu and subsequently denied their father access to them.
The father reportedly approached a court in Jos, where the family had previously lived. After several invitations, the woman allegedly failed to appear before the court.
The court eventually granted custody of the children to their father, while allowing the mother visitation rights. Reports indicate that she did not appeal the judgment but allegedly refused to comply with the court's order.
She was subsequently held in contempt of court, and after allegedly failing to appear again, the court reportedly ordered her arrest.
Police eventually arrested her in Enugu and transported her to Jos, where the children were handed over to their father and the woman was reportedly remanded in custody.
Whatever the circumstances, court orders are meant to be obeyed until they are lawfully overturned. ⚖️
