South Africa is asking Nigeria, Malawi and Ethiopia to reimburse the government for the cost of sending tens of thousands of their citizens back home.

South Africa says it has deported or assisted in repatriating more than 80,000 immigrants, spending nearly $18 million on transportation, temporary repatriation centres, accommodation and staff overtime.

The Department of Home Affairs described the expenses as “unforeseen and unavoidable,” while officials said written requests for compensation have already been sent to the three countries.

The move comes amid growing tensions over illegal immigration in South Africa, including protests by anti-immigration groups and attacks on foreign nationals.

The demand could further test diplomatic relations between South Africa and Nigeria.

DAMON DARLING BANNED FOR LIFE FROM WALMART

Popular American comedian and social-media influencer Damon Darling has reportedly been banned for life from Walmart following a confrontation at an Ohio store.
Darling, who has more than 10 million followers across social media, said he was at the store to buy groceries for other shoppers when an employee ordered him to leave. A police officer subsequently told him that the ban applied to all Walmart stores, as well as Sam’s Club and Murphy’s gas stations.

However, Walmart says the ban was not because of Darling's charitable grocery giveaways. The company said he had repeatedly violated its policies through “disruptive behavior and trespassing”, unrelated to charitable activities.

Darling has acknowledged that some of his earlier Walmart videos involved pranks and stunts, including throwing merchandise, pretending to fall and pouring milk on himself. He says his content has since changed toward helping people.

Despite the ban, Darling has urged his followers not to boycott Walmart, saying he still loves the company and hopes to reconcile with it in the future.
