: DESTMA Intelligence Unit Charged to Elevate Operational Standards
By Omonigho Okotie
Hon. Dr. Benjamin Essien Okiemute, NN (Rtd.), FNIIS, Director General of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), has issued a directive to officers of the Intelligence Unit, calling for a significant shift toward higher operational standards and total professional accountability.
In a high-level briefing held at his office today, Dr. Okiemute who brings a wealth of experience from his distinguished tenure in the Directorate of Naval Intelligence reminded the personnel that their roles are critical to the agency’s success.
He emphasized that as covert operatives, the weight of the agency’s mission rests squarely on their shoulders, necessitating a high level of discipline, tactical awareness, and strategic intelligence gathering.
Dr. Okiemute noted that the scope of the unit’s work extends beyond routine traffic management; it serves as a vital pillar in supporting security agencies to ensure the safety of the citizenry across the state. This, he noted, is in firm alignment with the "M.O.R.E." agenda of the administration of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which prioritizes the security and welfare of all Deltans.
To support this objective, the Director General has mandated that every intelligence officer must now submit comprehensive, individual weekly reports. These assessments are to be routed through the Director of Operations directly to the office of the D.G. to ensure consistent monitoring and actionable intelligence.
Looking toward the agency’s growth, the D.G. provided a timeline for upcoming expansion, confirming that the new DESTMA impound lot is nearing completion and is scheduled for official inauguration very soon.
Dr. Okiemute concluded the briefing by reiterating that the "enormous job" of intelligence gathering requires absolute dedication, charging the unit to embrace these new protocols to ensure that DESTMA continues to uphold its mandate of effective traffic management and public order throughout Delta State.
