Breaking News: Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala Set to Open WTO Sub-Office in Aba, Abia State — This Historic Move Poises Aba to Become an International City.

In a major global development, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization, is reportedly preparing to establish a WTO sub-office in Aba, Abia State — marking the first-ever WTO presence in Africa and only the second worldwide.

According to early statements, Okonjo-Iweala described the decision as “a strategic investment in Africa’s industrial potential”, noting that “Aba has shown remarkable resilience and innovation, and the world is beginning to notice.”

Local observers say this single project could transform Aba into a fully recognized international commercial hub, attracting global investors, manufacturers and trade partners.

A senior Abia State official added:
“This will change everything for Aba. The city is stepping onto the world stage.”

I am pleased to announce that the Delta State Government, through the State Tenders Board, has awarded the contract for the reconstruction of the dual carriageway with reinforced concrete from the Spare Parts Market U-turn, Effurun, to after Ohore Junction, before Omenta Bridge, along the Warri–Sapele–Benin Road, to CCECC. The new road cross-section will include an expanded pavement width of 8.8 m, 2.8 m reinforced concrete shoulders, and 12 km of stormwater concrete drains on both sides of the entire road section, including discharges.

This project will be executed within 12 months to deliver a durable, modern, and safe road that will ease traffic in conjunction with the ongoing flyover projects from the DSC Roundabout to Ohore Junction, boost trade, and improve the daily lives of our people.

The Federal Ministry of Works has recently awarded the rehabilitation of the Benin–Asaba Expressway from Summit Junction to the Niger Bridge Head, with the use of reinforced concrete, to Hartland Nigeria Limited.

I remain committed to being a listening Governor — one who acts promptly on the genuine concerns of Deltans, while building infrastructure that supports growth and prosperity across the State.

Together, we are building a Stronger Delta.

Lagos State Government has reacted to the outcry of TikTok influencer Peller, after he was handed a N36m tax bill.

Abdulkabir Ogungbo, special adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tax and Revenue, explained that taxation is not targeted at individuals like Peller but applies to everyone earning legitimately in Lagos.

According to him, Section 24 of the Nigerian Constitution clearly mandates every citizen who earns income to declare it honestly and pay tax.

When quizzed on whether online influencers like Peller fall into this bracket, the special adviser noted that new tax reforms already cover digital assets and virtual transactions.

This means that TikTok stars, YouTubers, Instagram influencers, and other online earners are not exempt from taxation simply because their work is digital.

Life is in Cycles – Be Mindful of How You Treat Your Workers

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has a remarkable story that reminds us that life often comes full circle.

Many years ago, long before politics, Shettima worked at Zenith Bank. He rose through the ranks and eventually left in 2007 as a General Manager, stepping away from banking to pursue a career in public service.

From that point, his journey in politics began. Over the years, he served as a Commissioner, Governor, Senator, and today, he stands as the Vice President of Nigeria. Yet, despite all these achievements, Shettima never forgot the institution that gave him his early wings. He has consistently spoken with pride about how Zenith Bank transformed his life, even fondly referring to himself as a “Jim Ovia boy,” in honor of the bank’s founder.

Yesterday, at Zenith Bank’s 35th Anniversary celebration held at Eko Hotel, that story of loyalty and gratitude played out in a powerful way. When Shettima arrived, Jim Ovia, the founder and chairman of the bank — and Shettima’s former boss — rose from his seat to personally receive him. He was the only guest accorded such honor, not just because of their history but also by virtue of his office as Vice President.

It was a symbolic moment, a true life circle on display: a young banker who once worked under Jim Ovia now returned decades later as the Vice President of the nation, celebrated by the very institution that shaped his path.

A timeless reminder that the way we treat people in their early stages can echo far into the future. Life, indeed, is in cycles.
