*GRADUATION CEREMONY OF NAVAL WARFARE COURSE 9*

On September 12, 2025, the Naval War College Nigeria (NWCN) proudly graduated 30 participants of Naval Warfare Course 9. The ceremony, held at the Central Lecture Hall, was attended by esteemed guests, including the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, and the Deputy Governor of Cross Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Peter Agbey Odey.

The graduands included 21 Nigerian Navy Commanders, 2 Lieutenant Colonels from the Nigerian Army, 2 Wing Commanders from the Nigerian Airforce, and international participants from Cameroon, Democratic Republic of Congo, and Ghana. Notably, Miss Judithmary Iloh, a civilian staff member from the National Defence College Abuja, became the first female participant to graduate from this course.

On Friday, 25 July 2025, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Training Command (FOC NAVTRAC), Rear Admiral Robert Obande Obeya, continued his maiden familiarisation tour with visits to the Port Harcourt Refinery Company (PHRC) and the Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne, Rivers State.

At PHRC, the FOC NAVTRAC was received by the Acting Managing Director, Engineer Jelili Ademoye, who extolled the virtues of the Nigerian Navy (NN) for serving as a strong support system in the discharge of the company’s responsibilities. He thanked the FOC NAVTRAC for the visit and congratulated him on his appointment. Engineer Ademoye emphasised that the NN has been an integral part of the company and appreciated the crucial role it plays in supporting PHRC operations. He assured the FOC NAVTRAC of strengthened cooperation with the Command.

At the Nigeria Customs Service, Port Harcourt II Area Command, Onne, the FOC VAVTRAC was received by the Area Comptroller, Comptroller Mohammed Babandede. He congratulated Rear Admiral Obeya on his appointment and expressed appreciation for the visit. CAS SALUTES 45 YEARS OF AFMS EXCELLENCE, UNVEILS NEW EDUCATION DRIVE AT JOINT PASSING OUT PARADE

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force's (NAF) unwavering commitment to youth development and quality education during the Joint Passing Out Parade of the Air Force Military School (AFMS) and Air Force Girls Military School (AFGMS) in Jos. The occasion, which also marked the 45th anniversary of AFMS, celebrated the legacy of the institution that has produced over 6,200 graduates who have excelled across various sectors globally. Reflecting on his time as an instructor at AFMS nearly three decades ago, the CAS underscored the enduring relevance of military-style education in shaping disciplined and visionary leaders. He also praised the AFMS Alumni Association for their impactful contributions to the school’s development.

Highlighting NAF’s growing reputation for academic excellence, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that its schools are among the most sought-after in Nigeria, thanks to deliberate policies aimed at maintaining top-tier standards. He announced the establishment of new schools in Abuja, Igbara-Oke, and Kaduna, and ongoing efforts to harmonize NAFOWA-owned schools into a unified system. Additionally, the CAS revealed plans for significant upgrades at AFMS, including improved feeding systems and better access to clean water. A major highlight of the day was the announcement of the revival of a programme to absorb Ex-Junior Airmen and Airwomen into the NAF, offering graduates of AFMS and AFGMS a direct pathway into military service after further training, an initiative aimed at strengthening NAF's human capital while preserving its core values.

In his address to the graduates, the CAS commended their discipline and precision, declaring them as “the future of Nigeria,” and urging them to lead with purpose and integrity. NIGERIAN ARMY DECORATES FIRST FEMALE INFANTRY CORPS ARMY WARRANT OFFICER IN ABUJA

In a historic milestone, the Nigerian Army Women Command celebrated the promotion of Army Warrant Officer Hajara Egbunu on Friday, January 3, 2025. Brigadier General Mathias Amatso, Commander of the Nigerian Army Women Command, decorated Egbunu with her new rank badge during a ceremony held at the Command Conference Room in Abuja. This landmark achievement makes Egbunu the first female soldier from the elite Infantry Corps and the Nigerian Army Women Command to attain the prestigious rank of Army Warrant Officer.

Lieutenant Maureen Ogbuka, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the Nigerian Army Women Command, highlighted in a statement that Brigadier General Amatso praised Egbunu for her exceptional professionalism, dedication, and effectiveness. He emphasized that her promotion was a reflection of her hard work and urged her to continue setting an example by upholding discipline and inspiring younger soldiers, aligning with the core values of the Nigerian Army.

In furtherance of his Command Philosophy to transform the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) into an agile and resilient force which effectively fulfils the airpower imperatives of national security, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar was recently in Doha, Qatar to engage with Barzan Holdings, a leading Qatari defence company. Discussions centred on leveraging opportunities for technology transfer, and the acquisition of cutting-edge solutions to meet the operational demands of the NAF. This aligns with the CAS’s strategic intent to enhance the NAF's core competencies through innovation and collaboration, underscoring the importance of global partnerships in the development of critical national security capabilities.
The engagement with Barzan Holdings also reflects the broader objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Qatar in March 2024, which sought to strengthen bilateral relations, particularly in the areas of security and economic cooperation.
