Ozo Jeff Nweke Declares Governorship Ambition to Ezinano Youth: Receives Overwhelming Support

Ezinano, Anambra State — May 31, 2025

In a moment charged with hope, unity, and ambition, Ozo Jeff Nweke officially informed the Ezinano youth of his intention to contest in the upcoming Anambra State Governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025. The declaration, made during a well-attended gathering in the heart of Ezinano, marks a significant step in what many see as a new chapter for the state's political landscape.

Addressing the youth with passion and clarity, Ozo Jeff Nweke outlined his vision for an Anambra State that is inclusive, prosperous, and driven by innovation and integrity. He emphasized the pivotal role of the youth in shaping the future and reaffirmed his commitment to championing policies that empower young people, enhance infrastructure, and foster economic growth across all local government areas.

“I am not just stepping into this race for political ambition,” Ozo Nweke said. “I am answering a call — a call from the people, especially the youth, who deserve leadership that listens, learns, and delivers.”

The response from the youth of Ezinano was nothing short of electrifying. With chants, songs, and words of endorsement, they assured Ozo Jeff Nweke of their unwavering support, expressing joy that a leader they trust and admire is stepping up to lead at the highest level in the state.

“We are solidly behind you,” said Tochukwu Nwosu, a youth leader from the area. “You have walked with us, worked with us, and now, we walk with you to Awka Government House.”

Ozo Jeff Nweke’s declaration has stirred optimism not only in Ezinano but across wider youth groups in Anambra, many of whom see in him a leader capable of bridging generational divides and addressing long-standing issues with fresh insight and sincerity.

As the countdown to the 2025 governorship election begins, political observers and community stakeholders will be watching closely. But for the people of Ezinano, especially the youth, the message is already clear — their support for Ozo Jeff Nweke is not just political, it is personal, grounded in years of trust and shared vision.

Hon. Ikechukwu Anene Elected Chairman of Okperi Village, Amikwo Community, Awka

By Anonymous

Awka, May 2025 – In a peaceful and well-organized electoral process, the Okperi General Assembly in Okperi Village, part of the larger Amikwo Community in Awka, has successfully elected Hon. Ikechukwu Anene as the new Chairman of the village. His tenure is set to span the next two years, during which he will serve as the administrative head and voice of the village in both internal and external matters.

The election, which took place with the full participation of elders, youths, and stakeholders, is being hailed as a shining example of grassroots democracy and community organization. It marked a new chapter for the village as members came together in unity and mutual respect to elect a leader who they believe has the experience, integrity, and vision to steer the affairs of Okperi forward.

Hon. Ikechukwu Anene, a well-known community leader and public servant, expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him by the people of Okperi. In his acceptance remarks, he promised to lead with transparency, inclusiveness, and a strong commitment to the growth and development of the village.

"This is not a personal victory", Hon. Anene said. “It is a collective decision by our people, and I promise to uphold the trust you have placed in me. I will serve with humility and dedication.”

The Okperi General Assembly, which serves as the highest decision-making body in the village, organized the election in accordance with local customs and the principles of fair representation. Observers praised the smooth conduct of the process and highlighted it as a model for other communities within Awka South LGA.

Among the key priorities outlined by the new chairman are improving internal security, promoting youth empowerment, enhancing infrastructural development, and preserving the cultural heritage of the Okperi people.

Community members, including traditional leaders and youth representatives, have congratulated Hon. Anene and pledged their support to his administration. Many expressed hope that his tenure would usher in a season of unity, peace, and progress for Okperi.

As Hon. Ikechukwu Anene officially assumes his role, expectations are high, but so too is the community’s resolve to support him in building a stronger and more vibrant Okperi Village.

Final Day of Imoka Festival Marked by the Sole Parade of Agunabo Umuzocha Masquerade

By Anonymous

Awka, May 28, 2025 – Yesterday, Wednesday, known in the Igbo traditional calendar as Nkwo, marked the grand finale of the revered Imoka Festival in Awka, Anambra State. The day was not only significant for its conclusion of the festivities but also for the rare and solemn appearance of a special masquerade known as Agunabo Umuzocha.

According to Awka tradition, Agunabo Umuzocha is no ordinary masquerade. It parades alone, without the company of other masquerades, symbolizing both its uniqueness and the sacred role it plays in the cultural rites of the people. It is deeply respected and surrounded by mystery—especially due to its strict separation from women, who are culturally forbidden to see it. As such, requests for pictures of the masquerade are respectfully declined in keeping with this long-standing tradition.

As the story was told to me, the parade of Agunabo Umuzocha is a mark of the spiritual and cultural climax of the festival. It signals not just the end of ceremonies but also serves as a powerful cultural moment for the people of Umuzocha and Awka at large. The masquerade’s appearance is both an honor and a call to reflection—a reminder of the enduring strength of cultural heritage.

Equally significant on this day is the symbolic return of Ezu Amansea, the revered river spirit, which according to tradition, goes back in the form of a rain. This rain is not merely seen as a change in weather but as a spiritual signal that the festival has concluded successfully. It marks the departure of the spirits that were called upon during the festival, and the restoration of balance and peace within the land.

The Imoka Festival, rooted in history and tradition, continues to hold deep meaning for the Awka people. It is a time when ancestors are honored, communities are united, and sacred customs are observed with pride and reverence.

As always, cultural accounts such as this are shared with humility and respect. This story is written as it was told to me, and I stand to be corrected by elders and custodians of Awka tradition who hold deeper knowledge of these sacred practices.

Note to Readers:
Due to cultural restrictions, photographs or images of Agunabo Umuzocha are not shared, particularly because it is a masquerade that women are not permitted to see.
