PETER EKWUEME CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, ASSURES INCLUSIVE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, RIGHTS PROTECTION
One thing that stands out about Barr. Peter Ekwueme is his sincerity of purpose and commitment to social justice. It is in line with this character of his that he has stood in consistent pursuit of the protection of rights of persons living with disabilities.
Ekwueme who is the founder of Peter Ekwueme Development Foundation (PEDEF) today joins other well-meaning individuals around the world to mark the international day of persons living with disabilities.
In a statement released by his media office on Tuesday December 3, 2024, Ekwueme, a Debt Recovery Attorney and Real Estate Developer described the International Day of Persons living with disabilities as a day that remind us that individuals living with disabilities deserve special communal and legal protection.
The Oko-born Transactional Fraud Prevention Expert, in line with the theme of this year's celebration entititled: Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future, assured his continued call for protection of rights of persons living with disabilities.
"Despite their condition, persons living with disabilities have shown that they are capable of contributing their quota to national development by excelling in several fields of human endeavor. We must therefore join hands to promote laws and norms that protect their rights", Ekwueme stated.
Ekwueme futher reiterated his commitment to the protection of rights of persons living with disabilities in his capacity as a lawyer. He promised to forestall any form of injustice against persons with disabilities in Anambra South Senatorial District and Anambra State at large.
We may recall that Barr Ekwueme who had declared interest to run for Anambra South Senatorial seat under the platform of New Nigeria People's Party (NNPP), had in his capacity as National Leader, Youth Association of Anambra South District petitioned the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Inspector General of Police (IGP), Chairman Police Service Commission, and the Senate and House Committees on Human Rights after which he granted a press conference over the brutalization and teargassing of a councilorship candidate in the last Anambra local government election who is living with disability.
The action was in line with Ekwueme's consistent utilization of various leadership and social platforms to call for social justice, transparency and accountability across all levels of government.
