Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Ada whose mother died when she was very small. Her father later married another woman, Madam Clara, who pretended to love Ada in front of her father but secretly hated her.
Clara was jealous of Ada’s beauty and kindness. She would starve her, send her to the farm without food, and force her to do all the house chores while her own children played and rested. Whenever Ada cried, Clara would mock her and say, “Your tears will never change anything. You are just a servant in this house.”
But Ada was patient, humble, and prayerful. She never spoke badly to her stepmother, instead she continued to help people around the village with her good heart. Everyone loved her because of her kindness.
One day, the king of the land organized a grand festival where all maidens were invited. Clara hid Ada’s clothes and tried to stop her from going, but with the help of some villagers who adored Ada, she was able to attend. At the festival, Ada’s beauty and gentle spirit caught the attention of the prince. He fell in love with her immediately and later married her as his wife.
When Madam Clara heard that Ada had become the princess, she trembled in shame. She tried to beg for forgiveness, but her wickedness was already known to everyone. Her own children, whom she spoiled, grew lazy and disobedient, and they brought her nothing but sorrow.
Clara realized too late that wickedness never pays. Her cruelty only destroyed her peace, while Ada’s kindness lifted her higher. From that day, she lived with regret, wishing she had treated Ada with love.
