UMTH CMD Seeks Approval for Diploma Programme at Medical ICT Institute

The Chief Medical Director of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Professor Ahmed Ahidjo has requested the approval of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria seeking to commence a Diploma Programme at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Medical ICT Institute of the UMTH.

He made the request when he led a delegation to the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) recently.

As contained in a press statement made available to newsmen by the CMD, the move aims to enhance Medical ICT in the North East Region and beyond, following the recent commissioning of the institute among other new centres in the hospital.

Professor Ahidjo expressed appreciation for the warm reception from CPN Registrar, Muhammad Bello Aliyu, assuring that the institute will provide needed training.

Professor Ahidjo noted that the approval, when granted, is expected to boost medical ICT capabilities in the region.

While responding, the CPN Registrar lauded Professor Ahidjo's strides in transforming UMTH into a world-class health centre, and pledged unwavering support for the ICT Institute's objectives.

The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Jalingo has congratulated the coordinating minister of health and social welfare Prof Mohammed Ali Pate on the occasion of his 57th birthday anniversary.

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu who made this known in a goodwill message, noted that Professor Pate has been a driving force in shaping Nigeria's healthcare landscape.

According to her, tributes coming from individuals and organizations in respect to the minister's birthday acknowledges his tireless efforts and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the country.

FG, Gombe Sign MoU for Takeover of Kumo General Hospital as Federal Health Facility

Gombe state and the federal government of Nigeria have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the takeover of the newly constructed General Hospital Kumo.

According to a press statement made available to newsmen the Director General, press affairs government house Gombe, Ismaila Uba Misilli on Tuesday, the signing of the MoU is coming following the conversion of the general hospital to the status of federal medical centre (FMC) to ensure immediate commencement of operations.

The DG explained that the Hospital was constructed and fully equipped with cutting-edge medical facilities by Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s administration.

According to him, the MoU signing ceremony took place at the federal ministry of health and social welfare headquarters in Abuja, with Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya signing on behalf of Gombe State, while minister of state for health, Dr. Iziaq Salako, signed for the federal government.

Misilli further noted during the signing of the MoU signing, Gombe state commissioner of health, Dr. Habu Dahiru, Permanent secretary of the federal ministry of health, Mrs. Daju Kachallom were present.

Speaking at the event, Governor Inuwa Yahaya described the development as a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to expand access to quality healthcare, not only for Gombe citizens but for the entire North East region.

The governor stressed that the hospital is not just for the people of Gombe State, alone, given the central location of Gombe within the subregion, but will serve as a critical referral facility for the entire North East and beyond.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the hospital’s conversion and for his commitment to strengthening the health sector nationwide under his Renewed Hope Agenda.

The governor assured that Gombe State would fully support the smooth and effective implementation of the MoU.

He gave an overview of the dilapidated health system his administration inherited and outlined the strides made so far to change the narrative.

The press statement said, "among these are the revolutionary improvements in Primary Health Care (PHC), including the provision of at least two fully functional PHCs in each of the 114 political wards, a feat achieved through strategic investment and partnerships".

Governor Yahaya pointed out the reconstruction and establishment of three state-of-the-art General Hospitals, one in each senatorial district, as part of his administration’s comprehensive health reform agenda aimed at expanding access to essential and specialist care.

In his remarks, the Minister of State for Health commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his vision and ex*****on in transforming the healthcare system in Gombe, especially at the primary care level.

“In the health sector, you have been outstanding and consistently setting the pace. We appreciate your commitment and partnership. Your administration reflects the very spirit of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in delivering high-impact projects that directly improve the lives of citizens,” the Minister said.

He noted that the newly acquired Kumo facility would become the 16th Federal Hospital established under the current administration, and assured that the Federal Government would immediately begin mobilizing resources, personnel, equipment and operational support to ensure the hospital begins functioning without delay.

The Minister also responded positively to Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s request for Federal Government intervention in the Snakebite Treatment and Research Centre in Kaltungo, assuring the Governor of the Ministry’s readiness to partner with the state on that critical facility.

Earlier in the ceremony, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, lauded the collaborative spirit between Gombe State and the Federal Government and emphasized the significance of such partnerships in bridging healthcare access gaps across the country.

NPHCDA donates Medical Consumables to Maiduguri Varsity Teaching Hospital

National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has donated medical consumables to the University Of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

The Chief Medical Director CMD of the hospital, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo made this known in a press statement on Friday.

According him, the UMTH under his management, had received a boost following the donation of essential medical consumables from the NPHCDA.

Prof Ahidjo mentioned the medical consumables received to include labour and delivery equipment, theatre and neonatal care items.

The press statement said all the donated items were handed over to the Chief Medical Director, Professor Ahmed Ahidjo.

It explained that the Executive Director National Primary Health Care Development Agency who was represented by the Borno State Coordinator NPHCDA Mohammed Shettima, said the gesture was part of the Agency's effort to strengthen health care delivery in the Region.

He emphasized the Agency's commitment to supporting tertiary health Institutions.

Chief Medical Director UMTH Professor Ahmed Ahidjo commended the NPHCDA for the donation, saying the items will go along way in boosting health care delivery in Borno and beyond as well as help in training health workers who may also work in Primary Health care Centres.

DG Tuggar Foundation urges citizens to participate in the ongoing voter registration

The Director General (DG) Tuggar Foundation, Honourable Uba Ahmed Nana has enjoined Nigerians, especially the people of Bauchi state to participate in continues voter registration currently going on across the country.

Hon Nana who is a former chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC in (Bauchi) made this known in a press statement on Monday.

The ex-Bauchi APC chairman further explained that by registering and acquiring of the permanent voters card, the citizens would be eligible to vote the leaders of their choices come 2027 and even beyond.

Hon Nana, a politician and also academia gave 10 reasons why Nigerians should be encouraged to obtain their permanent voters card as part of obligation to their civic responsibility, urging Bauchi people to ensure their names is in voters register of their polling units.

According to him, when registered, the citizens would have the right to participate in democracy, by empowering them exercise their constitutional right to vote and be voted for.

He said by obtaining the PVCs, it gives the citizens the opportunity to influence leadership choices because PVC is the only tool through which citizens can help elect credible leaders who will represent their interests.

Hon Nana further noted that, with PVC, citizens can vote out non-performing leaders and support candidates who are responsive to the needs of the people, adding that possession of PVCs shapes the future of Nigeria, as it enable citizens play an active role in deciding policies that will affect education, healthcare, security, and economic development across the nation.

The DG Tuggar Foundation also said, possession of PVCs prevent a situation where a citizen can be disenfranchised and deterred from voting candidates that can perform better in leadership position.

"Registering now ensures no one is left out of the process. It strengthen the electoral system. The more citizens register and vote, the stronger democracy becomes", he said.

Hon Nana said obtaining PVCs encourages high voter turnout, which makes elections more credible and reduces the chance of manipulation.

He said, by registering, the system will ensure youth and women inclusion who forms a significant part of Nigeria’s population.

"Registering ensures their voices are not ignored in decision-making and governance", the former party chairman said.

He stressed that having PVC enable the citizens to ask for change of leadership in a peaceful way by exercising their civic duty, and also demand demand good governance instead of resorting to protests or violence.

Hon Uba Nana said, the need to register for voters card ensures local government representation, explaining that, beyond gubernatorial and presidential elections, a PVC allows citizens to elect competent leaders at the local government level who directly impact grassroots development.

He maintained that registering and voting sets are a positive example for younger generations, which shows that citizens value democracy and are willing to build a better Nigeria.

Uba Nana said by registering, the good people of Bauchi would be eligible to participate in all elections including the local Government elections.

He therefore, called on APC members to make sure their children, both male and female who have reached the age of 18 years are not left out in the voter registration process at the nearest polling station within their community area.

Bauchi 2027: APC supporters pledge to buy Guber nomination form for Sen Buba

Ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria, a forum comprising thousands of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to the senator representing Bauchi south Senatorial district, Shehu Buba Umar have pledged to purchase governorship party nomination form and that of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for him to contest for the Bauchi Governorship seat.

The supporters made the resolution during a political town hall meeting they organized at the Event Centre in Bauchi on Saturday.

During the meeting, they unanimously declared support for Senator Shehu Buba Umar's governorship in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the meeting on Sunday, the forum's chairman, Hon. Aminu Mohammed Danmaliki enumerated various laudable achievements of the Senator in the last two years, which he said made them to drum support for him as someone who has it takes to govern Bauchi state after the exit of Governor Bala Mohammed from government house come 2027.

According to him, Sen Shehu Buba Umar has sponsored 500 students into the Malikiya College of Nursing Sciences, Bauchi, to which he was the proprietor.

Hon. Aminu Mohammed, who holds the traditional title of Dan-malikin Bauchi, disclosed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would soon display voters’ registers, appealed to all eligible voters to ensure their names were in the register.

Hon. Aminu, who chairs the Pioneer Leaders’ Committee of the APC Supporters for SBU’s endorsement, assured all party members of inclusiveness in governance and expressed optimism that the Bauchi South Senator would clinch the governorship seat come the 2027 election

Also speaking, the Bauchi Local Government APC chairman, Alhaji Sunusi Biyali, recalled that Senator Shehu Buba had last year provided 122 trucks of trailer Lorries of rice, which was distributed across the state.

He said the gesture of the senator has helped in bringing down the cost of the commodity in the market across the state.

Biyali revealed that the Bauchi South district senator has provided 14 trucks of fertilisers for distribution to farmers in his district, adding that more trucks are going to Bauchi for onward distribution to farmers.

Alhaji Sunusi Biyali also called on the state government to bring out the fertiliser consignment it received from the federal government meant for farmers in the state which it cornered for onward distribution to the people.

He wondered how the federal government could provide a large consignment of fertiliser to the state for the current rainy season for distribution to the people, only for the state government to corner the allocation for self-aggrandisement.

The meeting endorsed Senator Buba for Bauchi governor come 2027 following a motion moved by Hon. Aminu Mohammed and seconded by Alh. Hussaini Baba and Barrister Jibrin Saeed Jibrin on behalf of Bauchi, Zungur, Galambi, and Miri districts of the APC.

Our correspondent gathered that the endorsement had the full support of Hon. Abdul Hamid Rufa’i, Alhaji Ibrahim Muhammed, Rabi’u Abubakar Bishi, Hajiya Bilkisu Ori, Hon. Muhammed Ladan and Alhaji Shamsuddeen Bala Kaka Lukshi.

The forum promised to purchase the party form and INEC candidacy form for Sen Shehu buba Umar during the election as their contribution as Grassroots supporters from Bauchi local Government.
