APC Stakeholders, Former Speaker, Ex-Commissioners Defect to PRP in Darazo
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Darazo Local Government Area has suffered a major setback after scores of senior party officials defected to the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), citing lack of fairness in recent primaries.
The defectors include 8 APC Local Government Executive Committee members, 27 Ward Executive Committee members, 26 of 38 LGA stakeholders’ committee members, 2 former commissioners, 2 retired permanent secretaries, and prominent grassroots mobilizer Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar Sade.
High-profile entrants to the PRP also include Rt. Hon. Kawuwa Shehu Damina, former Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, and Prof. Magaji Yubuga, mni, former Provost of the College of Education, Kangere.
Political observers have described the movement as a “defection tsunami” and say it could reshape Darazo’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the reception in Darazo, party leaders said the defections reflect growing dissatisfaction with the APC and increasing confidence in PRP’s leadership and democratic processes.
“The PRP offers a platform where members have equal opportunities to participate in decision-making without discrimination,” the defectors stated jointly.
The PRP leadership welcomed the new members and pledged equal treatment, political inclusion, and a commitment to good governance and sustainable development in Bauchi State.
The development adds to shifting political dynamics in Bauchi as parties intensify preparations for the 2027 governorship and general elections.
The Peoples Redemption Party is a Nigerian political party committed to democratic governance, social justice, and inclusive development.
