The Tiny Goalpost and the Big Lesson
"At first, I couldn’t score a single goal… but that tiny target taught me everything about growing on social media."
When I first started practicing football in my backyard, I made up a game: penalty shootout, but with a twist. Instead of a regular goalpost, I used two bricks and a chair. It was tiny. Scoring felt nearly impossible.
I missed the first shot. Then the second. Then the fifth. Honestly, it felt discouraging. But I kept going. I didn’t change the goal; I just changed how I approached it. I adjusted my footing, studied my angles, and stayed consistent. Finally, on the 18th try, I scored. And from there, each goal came a little easier.
That moment reminded me of how growing a business on social media feels.
A lot of small business owners and startups start with limited reach, tiny goals that feel hard to hit. You post content that gets no likes. You try something new and hear crickets. It’s easy to think, “This isn’t working.”
But just like that narrow goalpost, the more you keep going, the better you get. You learn what your audience wants. You improve your visuals, your captions, and your offers. You adjust. You grow.
You don’t need a perfect start. I started my social media management agency a few months ago, and I can say I have improved, considering I knew nothing about media management when I started. You just need to start and keep showing up. Results come from consistency, not instant wins.
