🤎 KNOW YOUR CLANS: ENWAN (Akoko-Edo) 👀🔥
Not every clan makes noise… but their history speaks LOUD.
Have you heard of Enwan?
Enwan is one of the respected clans in Akoko-Edo, with deep ancestral ties to the Owan people 🤎
🏺 ORIGIN & HISTORY
According to oral tradition, Enwan was founded by Onyaro, a grandson of Prince Imaan of Emai.
The story? 👀
It began in Benin City…
A dispute during a festival forced Onyaro to leave.
From there, his journey led through Emai, then Okoto… before finally settling in present-day Enwan after a series of conflicts.
👉 A journey shaped by migration, resilience, and identity.
👑 TRADITION & LEADERSHIP
Enwan maintains a strong traditional system similar to the Benin Kingdom.
The ruler is known as the Odafe 👑
And here’s something unique:
👉 The throne is not strictly hereditary.
Different kindreds have the opportunity to produce the Odafe.
Power shared. Heritage preserved.
🌱 CULTURE & WAY OF LIFE
✔️ Farming is the backbone of the community
✔️ Rich cultural values and strong traditions
One interesting custom? 👇🏽
During marriage rites, friends of the couple fetch water for both families…
…but the bride herself is exempt 👀🤎
⚠️ QUICK NOTE
Don’t mix it up 👀
Enwan (Akoko-Edo) is different from Anwain in Etsako West.
