Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State has called on judges to uphold integrity and fairness in the discharge of their duties, warning that while they sit in judgment over others, they will also face judgment from God.
Speaking on Monday at the 2025/2026 Legal Year Ceremony of the Plateau State High Court of Justice in Jos, Mutfwang prayed that judges would stand before their creator with clear consciences when their time of accountability comes. He urged them to exercise discretion with wisdom, fairness, and the fear of God.
The governor commended the Plateau judiciary for maintaining a good reputation and avoiding scandals. He pledged his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary, improving working conditions within available resources, and fostering executive–judiciary collaboration without infringing on citizens’ rights.
On security, Mutfwang acknowledged the state’s persistent challenges but assured residents of ongoing interventions. He announced plans to recruit additional personnel into Operation Rainbow within two weeks to strengthen community security. He also appealed to citizens to provide credible intelligence to aid law enforcement.
The Legal Year Ceremony brought together judicial officers, lawyers, and stakeholders to reflect on the role of justice in governance and the rule of law.
