CHAPTER 3
"WHEN GOD IS SILENT!"
©️ Opeyemi Akintunde
As Inspired by the LIVING WORD

“Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday to you
Happy birthday dear Rosy
Happy birthday to you”

I was awoken by the singing of my parents and my siblings. I smiled as I opened my eyes to see them standing in my room with a small sized cake. The cake was a pink and Gold one with a giant topper that read "18." That immediately brought the date to my remembrance: I am 18!

"Today, I become a full-fledged adult, and my parents are throwing me a birthday party too." Remembrance hit me.

I jumped out of my duvet, stood on my bed, and began bouncing atop it, exclaiming in a singsong way, “I am 18, I am an adult! I am 18, I am an adult!”

“Say your prayer,” my mum said.

I closed my eyes for a few seconds, muttered something, opened my eyes, and blew out the candle.

“Happy birthday, my angel,” my dad said.

“Thank you, Daddy,” I said, coming off the bed and giving him a big hug.

My younger sister pulled me into a big hug, and My younger brother also wrapped his arms around me. In that moment, I felt like the first princess of the house that I was, and I was very assured of the love of my siblings, knowing they would be there with me and vice versa through life’s journey.

My dad pulled me out of my brother's arms into his own and began to make declarations over my life, with my mum chanting "Amen" as the prayers came.

“I pray over your life. The goodness of God never departs. You are covered and secured in God. The blessings of God spring you forth into greatness. You bring people to Christ more and more; the light of God shines in your life.”

“Amen,” everybody chorused.

In case I hadn’t mentioned, my parents are senior pastors in their ministry, so best bet that they spent almost 30 minutes declaring the goodness of God into the life of their princess. After all the prayers and well-wishes, my parents left me to dress up so we could go out to spend quality time together as a family before the big event that evening. I couldn’t wait to see all of our family and friends who would be coming in to celebrate my start of adulthood.

We went to this beautiful resort on the island, ate, drank, laughed, danced, and enjoyed each other's company as a family. My siblings gave the most beautiful presents ever. My Sister gave me a set of zirconia jewelry I had wanted for a while, and knowing what zero jewelry sense my sister had and the limited money she was permitted to spend, I just knew my mum picked it for her. My brother got me a matching shoe and bag in my favorite colors, Pink and Gold. They just knew how to spoil me silly. I didn’t bother asking my parents for a gift because the extravagant party they were throwing me that evening was more than enough for me.

*****
In preparation for the evening ceremony, I sat by the mirror as a stylist styled my hair. My mum came in.

“Goodness, baby, you look amazing,” my mum said.

“Thank you, Mum,” I replied, blushing.

“Nice work,” my mum told the stylist.

“Thank you, Ma,” she responded.

“Rosy, can you come with me briefly? Your father and I have something for you,” my mum said with a smile.

“Really?” I said, following my mum out of the room to the driveway to meet my dad, who stood in front of a shining black car and was smiling broadly. I looked at both of them, confused.

“Here are the keys to your car,” my father said, stretching the keys to me. I shouted and ran to my father's arms in excitement.

“Thank you, Daddy! Thank you so much, Mum!” I said, giving my mum a big hug too.

“You're welcome,” they both chorused.

I jumped around the car, screaming.

This day was turning more beautifully than I expected but something was missing! More like someone was missing.

Unlike Manasseh not to be around me on such a great day, where was he?

And it's funny he didn't send me a happy Birthday greeting all day!

"Where is Manasseh ?"

CHAPTER 2
"WHEN GOD IS SILENT!"

"I am just so glad time is closing in. Before we know it, you will graduate from school, and when you turn twenty-two, we can finally get married, relocate to Paris as you've always wanted, and be together forever," Manasseh said.

I smiled, feeling happy.

"I know, right? Very soon. I can't wait!" I said excitedly flashing him a holy Seductive smile.

As always, Manasseh's face quickly turned serious. He was the Senior Police officer in our relationship...

"But we will wait and do it right. I love you so much, and I can do anything for you. You know that right?"

I felt my heart melt. "I know you do, and I love you too."

Followed was a brief shared moment of understanding...

My mom; beautiful Pastor Sophie shattered the moment , as she walked in on us.

Manasseh stood immediately to greet her.

“Good Afternoon Ma” He greeted

“Manasseh Dear. Please, have your sit, you didn't have to stand. How are you?” My mother said

“Thank you, Ma. I'm good. “Manasseh said as he sat.

“And your parents?”

“They are doing very well.”

“All right then, I'll leave you best friends to your gist.” My mother said emphasizing the 'best friends' as always.

She was about leaving for her room but stopped halfway.

“Oh, that reminds me. I hope your parents got the invite to Rosy's 18th birthday? They are yet to RSVP.” She asked Manasseh.

“Oh, about that. No, they are travelling tomorrow for a meeting in Abuja and they won't be back till next week.” Manasseh responded

“Okay, that's fine. I will call your Mum later in the day then.” My mum said.

“Okay ma.” Manasseh said

“Aright, guys. Enjoy yourself” My mother said as she walked into her room.

I hit Manasseh playfully..

“Ouch” he said holding his shoulder.

“You didn't tell me they won't be around” I said with a frown

“I was going to. Don't worry, they handed your gifts to me.” He responded..

" That's sounds tempting, but I want their presence more...I want to show our future children that their grandparents attended their Mom's 18th birthday.. Isn't that sweet?" I said giggling like a child that I was. So innocently in Love.

“That would have made plenty sense ooo” Manasseh replied as he also got the perfect picture I was painting..

We shared another moment of laughter...

My Joy was so complete.

******
Later that day, after Manasseh had gone, I walked in on my mum. She was seated on the sofa in her bedroom scrolling through her phone.

“He left already?” My mum asked me.

“Yes. He has to go and prepare for some test.” I said explaining why he had to leave early. Manasseh could spend the entire day in my house.

“I see. Manasseh is such a good boy.” My mum said and I smiled. I knew where this conversation was headed. My mother got married when she was 20, so I knew she wanted that for me too.

“I can see the both of you are getting inseparable by the day.” My mum said

“Well, I really like him Mummy.” I said blushing.

“That's fine. I mean, we all know and we are fond of you two.” My mum responded

“Thank you.”

“You guys have to focus on your studies though, especially you, continually be of good conduct around each other and never let the devil tempt you to the point of losing your virginity.” My mum said with a concerned tone

“Of course, Mummy. We both desire and agree to stay virgins till we get married. Why the rush if we eventually would have it” I told her.

“Isn't that nice hearing you say this . Anyways, I was just chatting with the event planner , she is asking of the colours you want the souvenirs to be in.” My mum Said

“Pink and Gold” I said with a smile

“Must everything be in your favourite colours?”

“Yes, of course. It's my day.” I replied

“Okay, boss. I will let her know immediately.”

“Thank you, Mummy.” I hugged her

" I will be 18 in a few days!"

*****
The day started out very colourful...

CHAPTER 1
"WHEN GOD IS SILENT!"
©️ Opeyemi Akintunde
As Inspired by the LIVING WORD

I looked up at the shiny Paris wallpaper that used to be a constant reminder of my dream honeymoon. A dream I woke up to every morning and the last thing I ensured I looked at before hitting the bed.

It glowed in the dark as always; however, my heart didn't respond like in the past. Instead, this time, it ached so bad.

The only source of light was the screen of my laptop. I was seated in the dark, dressed in my black hoodie, staring at the laptop. It was time for me to write!

*****
"For the wages of sin is death!
For the wages of sin is death."

I kept typing those words over and over as my hands vibrated on its own.

"For the wages of sin is death..." My fingers kissed the keyboard with so much anger.

"Then why?" I asked as my body kept vibrating.

"Why? Why is this scripture not being fulfilled concerning me? Why is this sinner not dead?"

"I wasn’t the one who committed the sin, so why should I feel dead? Why do I feel like my soul has been ripped out of my chest when I’m not the one worthy of the death sentence?"

"Why do I have to be the one to wallow in the pits of hell when I didn’t commit the crime?

WHY?"

JUST WHY?

Somebody is worthy of this death sentence!

Somebody should be hung for this crime!

Not me, not ME! Somebody else should take my place on this island of pain.

The one who sinned should take my place on this cross of despair I am presently being hung on!

I guess at this point, you want to understand what's happening. Well, let me take you to the very beginning.

*****

6 MONTHS EARLIER

My name is Rosy and life couldn't be more perfect than it was for me six months ago. I was a happy teenage girl loved by her parents, Reverend Japheth and Pastor Sophie. Life was great! I was blessed to have two amazing younger siblings. I could do no wrong in their eyes. I was their perfect big sister: Rosy the intelligent, Rosy the sweet one, Rosy the caring one—the list goes on and on.

The icing on my 'blessings' was my childhood best friend turned soulmate, Manasseh. I was 17, going on 18, and he was 20, going on 21. We were two young people who took life seriously. We knew what we wanted in life early, thanks to early exposure to the things of God.

We became attracted to each other back in pre-teen class, but thanks to messages on sexual purity, we chose to be best of friends until we were mature enough to talk about dating. We had kept it that way for over six years, though we knew we loved each other deeply and spoke about future plans together. We were so responsible about it that our parents didn't have to monitor us.

That's how perfectly perfect my life had been prior to this time of writing.

A few days before my 18th birthday, I sat opposite Manasseh in my living room. We were laughing and joking, enjoying each other's company.

"I'm serious, those lecturers have no chill in them," Manasseh said, shaking his head. Manasseh was studying for his master's degree, while I was in my 200 level in school.

I laughed. "No, you're just exaggerating the whole situation."

Manasseh smiled. "I wish,” he said.

I laughed so hard.

Manasseh glared at me in admiration as usual.

I stopped laughing and looked at him.

"What?" I asked him, raising my eyebrow. I knew what was coming, but as a girl, I wanted to hear him say it.

"Nothing. I am just admiring you. I feel blessed knowing I am spending my forever with you," he said, smiling.

"Is that so?" I replied.

I blushed, feeling my heart flutter.

"Aww, thanks, Manasseh. I feel the same way about you."

Manasseh's eyes locked onto mine, filled with admiration. "In two days, you'll be a legalized adult. My Rosy will be 18, and then I will be free to ask you out on a proper date!"

"Awwwwwn," I said.

"I am just so glad time is closing in. Before we know it, you will graduate from school, and when you turn twenty-two, we can finally get married, relocate to Paris as you've always wanted, and be together forever," Manasseh said.

I smiled, feeling happy.

"I know, right? Very soon. I can't wait!" I said excitedly...

Unfortunately, that dream seems impossible right now!

"Why?" you ask.

Stay with me, the story has just begun.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR IN-LAWS RESPECT YOU

As a woman, you put yourself at a disadvantaged position if your husband does all the money making and you do all the spending especially when his people knows that.

Wives who want to be respected by their in-laws must make their presence felt in their husbands' lives. If his parents and siblings know that without your contribution in his life, he won't be as successful and great as he is, they will treat you with the respect you deserve.

If they know that all you do is make babies and clean the house without any source of income whatsoever, they may not respect you as they should.

Some ladies use child bearing and home cleaning as an excuse not to add any value whatsoever to the society and get paid. You can work from home. You have few hours to do that after your husband has gone to work and children have gone to school. No one should have idle time. That was how Eve listened to Satan and brought doom to the human race.

If your husband was struggling before you net him and still struggles 20 years after marriage, his people may be wandering why he married you in the first place. Add value. Contribute to the success of the marriage. Make your presence felt. Be an Amazon! A woman of power, success and impact.

Your in-laws may not respect you as a man if your wife's life, health, joy and peace keep deteriorating years after marrying you.

You will win your in-laws respect when you take good care of their daughter and it shows.

You command your in-law's respect as a wife or husband when you are kind, have spiritual power, you are generous, forgiving, very mature and wise.

Marriage is not for babies. You are not only marrying your spouse...you are marrying into a family as well.

Prepare for them by being the best God wants you to be.

You will be successful. It will show and you will command respect with ease.

Be blessed in all you do in Jesus' name!

Thanks for reading. God bless you. Cheers!
