Banbafu Films Sets October 10 for ‘Aloma Anibaba’ Premiere and Historic Unveiling of Badagry Movie Industry

Banbafu Films Production has announced Saturday, October 10, 2026, for the highly anticipated premiere of its new movie, ‘Aloma Anibaba’, alongside the historic official unveiling of the Badagry Movie Industry.

The double-barrel event, which is expected to be a landmark gathering for Badagry’s creative and entertainment community, will hold at the Lagos Theatre, Badagry, Lagos State. Red carpet will commence by 10:00 a.m, while the main event starts at 11:00 a.m.

According to the organisers, the occasion will be chaired by Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government; Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, Executive Chairman of Olorunda LCDA; and Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Kayode Yemaren, Chairman, Badagry West LCDA.

Distinguished personalities expected as chief launchers and special guests include Dr. Samuel Mauyon Ajose, former Lagos State governorship aspirant; Alhaji Dende Egungbohun; Alhaji Moba; Mr. Temitope Fajemirokun, Chairman of Simtop Boats; Hon. Olanrewaju Ibrahim Layode, Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs; Hon. Bonu Solomon, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Badagry Constituency I; Hon. Yaya Lateef; and HRM the Oniworo of Iworo Kingdom, among other invited dignitaries.

The premiere is set to bring together actors, filmmakers, producers, entertainment practitioners, traditional rulers, community leaders, cultural enthusiasts and other key stakeholders to celebrate Badagry’s growing presence in Nigeria’s creative economy.

A major highlight of the day will be the official unveiling of the Badagry Movie Industry, an initiative aimed at creating a dedicated platform for local filmmakers, actors, producers and other creative professionals to develop and promote film productions that reflect Badagry’s rich history, culture, heritage and contemporary stories.

The featured movie, ‘Aloma Anibaba’, will take centre stage during the premiere, offering guests an opportunity to experience the ingenuity of local talents and the emerging potential of Badagry as a destination for film and cultural storytelling.

The event will be anchored by popular Faaji FM presenter, Abiodun Adeoye (Afefo Oro), who will serve as Master of Ceremonies.

Banbafu Films Production said the gathering is a special invitation event, with attendance strictly by invitation.

Organisers noted that the October 10 event is expected to combine film, culture, entertainment and community development, while formally introducing a platform designed to advance movie production and storytelling in Badagry.

APM Terminals, Badagry Port Sign MoU to Develop New Deep Seaport in Lagos

APM Terminals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Badagry Port Development Limited to explore the development of the proposed Badagry Deep Seaport in Lagos.

The agreement was signed on Monday in Copenhagen, Denmark, during a visit by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and a federal government delegation.

According to the ministry, both parties will now enter negotiations on the project, with APM Terminals confirming its commitment to move it forward.

The MoU was signed by Vincent Clerc, Group CEO of A.P. Moller-Maersk for APM Terminals, and Didi Ndiomu, Managing Director of Badagry Port Development Limited and Quinn McGrath Marine and Environmental Services Limited.

Oyetola said the greenfield port is expected to boost Nigeria’s deepwater capacity, handle bigger container vessels, and create transshipment opportunities for Nigeria and the rest of West Africa.

He added that the federal government is committed to upgrading maritime infrastructure and attracting long-term private sector investment.

“Our engagement in Denmark shows the Federal Government’s commitment to modernizing Nigeria’s maritime infrastructure and unlocking the full potential of our blue economy,” the minister said.

He noted that partnerships with global terminal operators like APM Terminals are key to positioning Nigeria as a trade and logistics hub in West Africa.

The delegation also discussed extending APM Terminals’ concessions at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa, and the West Africa Container Terminal, WACT, Onne.

Igor van den Essen, Managing Director for Africa and Europe at APM Terminals, said the company’s investments in existing terminals and the proposed Badagry port will strengthen Nigeria’s role as a regional trade hub.

“Developing Badagry as a greenfield project will also help ease congestion in city ports and open new opportunities,” he said.

Ndiomu described the deal as the beginning of a new era for Nigeria’s maritime sector.

“Investing in maritime infrastructure, especially Badagry as a greenfield port with APM Terminals, is the beginning of Nigeria becoming the true maritime capital of sub-Saharan Africa,” he said.

The minister added that the port will complement existing facilities by supporting larger vessels and higher cargo volumes, and will boost Nigeria’s capacity as a regional transshipment hub for West and Central Africa.

GENERAL HOSPITAL BADAGRY APPRECIATES SUDABELT MEDICALS FOR FREE SICKLE CELL OUTREACH

The management of General Hospital Badagry has commended Sudabelt Medical Co. Ltd for its free sickle cell screening and health outreach held on Saturday, 4th July 2026 at the hospital premises.

A total of 315 residents benefited — 185 children aged 0-18 and 130 adults. Beneficiaries also received free medications, mosquito nets, meals and water.

The Deputy Medical Director, Dr. Waliu Ogunba, who represented the MD/CEO, Dr. Oluseyi Adesola, described the programme as “a big relief to parents” who spend fortunes managing sickle cell.

Health experts at the event also educated residents on genotype compatibility, stressing that AA + AA and AA + AS are safe combinations, while AS + AS and SS + SS should be avoided.

The Project Lead, Dr. Alex Udoh, and beneficiary Dr. AbdulRahman Balogun of SS genotype, both urged parents to remain hopeful, noting that with early screening and care, children with sickle cell can live long and achieve great things.

General Hospital Badagry thanked Sudabelt Medicals and promised more collaboration to improve healthcare access in Badagry Division.

The family of late Chief Haji Amusa Bodewuse Ramonu, the revered Bobajiro of Apa kingdom, is celebrating a new milestone as his granddaughter, Mauyon Rofiat Amusa, born early 2005 earns a Master’s Degree in Pharmacy with Distinction from North Cyprus University, 2026.

Miss Amusa’s academic journey reflects the classic Badagry spirit of resilience and excellence. She began at Lead Stars, Aradagun, proceeded to Badagry Grammar School, and later attended Merit Land, Pota, where she completed her secondary education with distinction. She then gained admission to North Cyprus University for both her Bachelor of Pharmacy and Master of Pharmacy, graduating with distinction at postgraduate level.

Her outstanding performance in the highly competitive field of Pharmacy cements her place as one of the shining lights of the new generation of Badagry professionals.

Born into the illustrious Amusa Bodewuse Ramonu family, Igbogbele, Badagry West Local Council Development area, Badagry, Lagos state. Rofiat carries forward a legacy of service and scholarship. Her late grandfather, Chief Haji Amusa Bodewuse Ramonu, who held the prestigious title of Bobajiro of Apa kingdom, was renowned for his leadership, philanthropy, and passion for education across Badagry Division.

Speaking on the achievement, a family spokesperson said: “From Aradagun to Badagry Grammar School, to Pota, and now North Cyprus; this is the Badagry dream. Baba Bobajiro believed in education as the greatest inheritance. Today, his granddaughter has honored that legacy with distinction.”

Lagos Fishermen Seek Support Amid LASWA Safety Compliance Drive

Lagos State waterway authorities have urged fishermen operating on the state's inland waterways to comply with safety regulations, while fishing community leaders called on government at all levels to provide support to improve their livelihoods and strengthen participation in the emerging blue economy.

Representatives of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) outlined key safety and operational requirements for fishermen. These include the mandatory use of life jackets, registration of boats, vessel seaworthiness, adherence to weather advisories, environmental protection and compliance with navigation rules.

LASWA said every fisherman and passenger must wear a standard life jacket while on the water under its "No Life Jacket, No Boarding" policy.

The authority also warned against overloading boats and urged operators to suspend fishing activities during storms, heavy rainfall, strong winds and poor visibility.

Speaking during the Year 2026 Anniversary of Badagry Fishermen Association, Samuel Olorunwa, representing LASWA General Manager Damilola Emmanuel, said safety on the waterways remained a shared responsibility.

"Wear your life jacket, avoid overloading, respect weather warnings, maintain your boat, and keep the waterways clean. Safety on the waterways is everyone's responsibility," he said.

Fishermen's leaders, however, said rising operational costs and limited government support were threatening the sustainability of the sector.

Sunday Aiyedogbon, Chairman of the Athomengante Fishermen Association, Badagry, said fishermen required greater government intervention, including access to affordable fishing equipment, storage facilities and empowerment programmes.

"The government knows what to do for us. If you don't have a fishermen representative in government, you may not have anyone to speak on your behalf," Aiyedogbon said.

He said the cost of fishing gear had risen sharply, making it increasingly difficult for fishermen to remain profitable.

"The net we used to buy for 400 is now 4,000. You expect me to go fishing and sell at a cheaper price; it is not done," he said.

Aiyedogbon also urged federal and state authorities to recognise the role fishermen play in supporting security operations on the waterways through intelligence gathering and information sharing.

"The fishermen are always on the waterways. They see things and can alert the security agencies. They see more and know more," he said.

Elijah Samuel, chairman of the planning committee for the 2026 anniversary of the Badagry Fishermen Association, appealed for government assistance with life jackets, fishing gear, boats and nets.

"We are educating our members on safety on the waters that will help improve our operations so we are not found wanting," he said.

Amos Joseph, Public Relations Officer of the Athomengante Fishermen Association, called for support to address the rising cost of fishing equipment and raised concerns over the conduct of some commercial boat operators.

"It is so disheartening that the boat drivers don't treat us as human. They drive recklessly, putting our lives in danger," Joseph said, adding that several fishermen had been killed or injured in waterway incidents.

The fishermen urged authorities to combine safety enforcement with economic support measures to improve livelihoods, strengthen waterway security and promote sustainable development of the state's blue economy.

Ayeye Ileya Festival Unites Families, Faiths And Communities In Badagry

Muslims in Badagry, Lagos State, gathered on Thursday, May 28, 2026 for the 23rd edition of the Ayeye Ileya celebration. The annual Eid al-Adha event brought together Islamic households, families and visitors in a display of unity, culture and faith.

The celebration, held in front of the Badagry City Hall on the second day of Eid al-Adha, featured prayers, spiritual reflections and performances by Islamic music stars including Saoti Arewa and Badagry-born Monsurat Ajelero.

“This is a celebration period, this is how we mark it every year, we call it Ayeye Ileya, this is the 23rd edition,” said Sheikh Uwais Akewusola, Chief Imam of Badagry.

“You will notice that there are different households here today. The benefits of the program to the community are enormous both economically and politically. This program brings people from far and near together, it increases commerce, you can see people selling their goods,” he added.

Akewusola said the gathering also strengthened family ties as people living outside Badagry returned home to celebrate Eid with loved ones.

“Politically when government provides an enabling environment for citizens to thrive, we are expected to behave within the ambit of the law and not cause issues,” he said.

Padonu Rasheed, secretary of the Ayeye Ileya 2026 committee, said the celebration reflected Islamic teachings of humanity and unity.

“Islam preaches humanity and unity. I think the essence of this celebration is tied to the history of Prophet Ibrahim. People who are far away come down and we are able to be together,” he said.

“This program promotes unity, peace and understanding. My message to all Muslim communities in Badagry is that we should come together in one mind to celebrate Allah,” he added.

The event was hosted by the Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Olanrewaju Layode, and brought together more than 40 Islamic households in the community.
