Damilola Marshal, daughter of Fuji music icon King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, has officially declared her intention to contest for a seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly, setting her sights on representing Surulere Constituency 2.

The lawyer and current Senior Special Assistant on Tourism to Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made her political ambition known in a Facebook post on Tuesday, where she outlined her readiness to serve and advocate for her constituents, particularly the youth.

In her announcement, Marshal expressed confidence in her ability to deliver, describing herself as a woman driven by excellence and results. She highlighted her 12 years of legal practice as a solid foundation that has shaped her understanding of governance, justice and the real needs of the people.

“I am excited to step forward to serve the good people of Surulere Constituency 2,” she wrote. “I promise to be the voice of the youths in the House. I listen to the youths because I am one of you and I understand what we truly need.”

Emphasising her connection with younger demographics, Marshal positioned her candidacy as a generational shift, pledging to prioritise youth inclusion and representation in legislative affairs. Her message, laced with campaign slogans such as “Vote Competence, Choose Progress” and “Youth Lokan,” signals a strategy aimed at mobilising young voters.

Marshal is expected to run under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, the same party currently holding the seat through Mosunmola Rotimi Sangodara, whom she is poised to succeed.

A graduate of North America University, Houdegbe, Cotonou, she was called to the Nigerian Bar on December 15, 2015. She further strengthened her academic profile with a Master of Laws degree from the University of Lagos in 2022.

Her entry into the race adds a new dynamic to the political landscape in Surulere, as attention shifts to how her pedigree, professional background and youth-focused message will resonate with voters in the constituency.
