Court Restrains Imo Govt, Police From Removing Ugochinyere’s Billboards

By Stephen Isaac | KURMItv

A Federal High Court in Abuja has extended an interim order restraining the Imo State Government, the police and other authorities from destroying, defacing or removing billboards belonging to federal lawmaker, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere.

The billboards are located across Ugochinyere’s Ideato North and Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State.

The order also covers agents, officials and other persons acting on behalf of the respondents.

Those named include the Inspector-General of Police, the Imo State Governor, the state’s signage and advertising agency, the chairmen of Ideato North and Ideato South Local Government Areas, and the Imo State Commissioner of Police.

The State Security Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps are also listed as respondents in the case.

The interim order was extended following an application by Ugochinyere for the protection to remain in force during the court’s vacation.

Justice Kayode Agunloye delivered the ruling on July 28, although a certified copy of the decision has only now been obtained by the African Independent Television.

The court ordered that the restraint remain in force pending the hearing of the substantive application.

The case has been adjourned until November 4, 2026.

Nigeria Proposes 80% Practical Training for Agriculture Students in Tertiary Institutions

By Stephen Isaac

Nigeria is proposing a major shift in the way agriculture is taught in tertiary institutions, with 80 per cent of training expected to be practical and 20 per cent theoretical.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, said the proposed changes are aimed at equipping young Nigerians with practical skills needed to secure employment and create opportunities within the agricultural sector.

The proposal is contained in a report submitted by the National Implementation Committee on the Review and Development of Agricultural Curricula for Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria.

Receiving the report on Thursday, Alausa said the proposed model would mark a significant departure from the existing structure, which places 70 per cent emphasis on theory and 30 per cent on practical training.

Under the new approach, students would spend considerably more time gaining hands-on experience in agricultural activities and developing occupational skills relevant to the industry.

The minister said the reform is part of broader government efforts to strengthen agriculture, improve youth employability and support Nigeria's economic development.

He also called for a comprehensive implementation of the revised curricula, stressing the importance of collaboration among industry professionals, academics, teachers and other stakeholders.

Alausa further urged those responsible for implementing the reforms to understand the new training model and the reasons behind the proposed changes.

Osun AG Seeks Police Probe of Senator Fadahunsi Over Alleged Threats

By Stephen Isaac | KURMItv

With the Osun State governorship election just two days away, the Osun State Attorney-General has approached the State High Court seeking an order compelling the police to investigate alleged threats of violence involving Senator Francis Fadahunsi.

The allegations stem from statements Senator Fadahunsi is reportedly to have made at a political gathering in Ilesha on August 11. A video of the event has since circulated on social media.

The Osun State Government alleges that some of the remarks contained in the video could be interpreted as threats against members and supporters of the Accord Party, as well as individuals backing Governor Ademola Adeleke.

The Attorney-General is asking the court to direct the police to authenticate and forensically examine the complete video and determine whether any criminal offence was committed.

The Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police are named as respondents in the application.

The Attorney-General is also seeking preventive measures to protect Accord Party candidates, supporters and voters ahead of Saturday's election.

The state government maintains that the application is intended to prevent possible violence and does not seek to establish Senator Fadahunsi's guilt, which can only be determined through due criminal proceedings.

It argues that law enforcement authorities have a responsibility to respond to credible threats and take preventive action before violence occurs.

Meanwhile, separate criminal complaints have reportedly been lodged against Senator Fadahunsi and an APC House of Representatives candidate, Damilare Eniade, over alleged seditious statements under the Osun State Criminal Code.

APM Elects National Working Committee, Unveils Agenda Ahead of 2027 Elections

By Stephen Isaac | KURMItv

Nigeria’s Allied Peoples Movement (APM) has elected a new National Working Committee as the party begins preparations for the 2027 general elections.

Delegates from across the country gathered in Bauchi for the party’s Second National Elective Convention, where Yusuf Dantalle was returned as National Chairman through an affirmation process.

Other members of the National Working Committee were also elected during the convention, while Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, emerged as the party’s National Leader.

Speaking after his emergence, Dantalle said the APM would focus on tackling poverty, unemployment and other economic challenges confronting Nigerians. He also pledged to promote what the party described as true federalism and policies aimed at improving the living standards of citizens.

The party’s presidential candidate and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, said poverty reduction and job creation would be among the major priorities of the APM ahead of the 2027 elections.

Party leaders described the APM as an alternative political platform and called for broader cooperation among opposition parties ahead of the elections.

With its national leadership structure now in place, the APM says it will shift its attention to mobilising support for its candidates and promoting its economic agenda as Nigeria moves towards the 2027 general elections.
