FEDPOLY BALI RECTOR HIGHLIGHTS ACHIEVEMENTS, CHALLENGES AS CONGREGATION ELECTS SEARCH AND SELECTION TEAMS

BALI, TARABA STATE, June 3, 2026 – The Rector of Federal Polytechnic Bali, Dr. Mohammed Usman, has highlighted major achievements recorded by the institution in recent years while drawing attention to critical challenges confronting its growth and development.

Dr. Usman made the remarks on Wednesday during the 2026 Congregation Meeting of the Polytechnic held at the Executive Lecture Theatre II in compliance with the provisions of the Polytechnic Act 2019.

Declaring the meeting open in his capacity as Chairman of Congregation, the Rector presented a comprehensive account of the institution's progress from 2023 to date. He outlined notable achievements in academic programme development, staff training and welfare, administration, security enhancement, and infrastructural development.

The Rector, however, identified several pressing challenges facing the institution, including the non-payment of compensation for land donated to the Polytechnic by the Taraba State Government, the absence of a connection to the national electricity grid, incomplete perimeter fencing, recurring bush burning incidents, and declining student enrolment.

Earlier in his opening remarks, the Registrar of the Polytechnic, Alhaji Muhammad Tukur Lamido, explained the purpose of the congregation meeting and informed members of the need to elect representatives into the Selection Board Committee and Search Team following the deliberations.

The interactive session provided staff members the opportunity to seek clarification on issues relating to staff welfare and entitlements. Responding to concerns raised, the Rector explained the administration's position on the matters and assured staff of management's commitment to addressing legitimate concerns.

Leaders of various staff unions also presented issues affecting their members. While some matters were resolved during the meeting, others were noted for further consideration by management.

The Bursar, Hajia Larai Dahiru Hamman, represented by the Deputy Bursar, Alhaji Abdulminu Barkindo, provided explanations on issues relating to financial transactions and institutional finances.

Also speaking, the Coordinator of the Skill Development Centre, Builder Auwal Isa Mohammed, commended the Rector for his commitment to skills acquisition programmes and the provision of resources that have enhanced the operations of the centre.

The Deputy Rector, Engr. Dr. Sani Isa Abubakar, acknowledged the contributions of the management team, members of the Academic Board, and the entire workforce of the institution. He praised staff for their support and cooperation and emphasized the need for greater unity and teamwork in advancing the Polytechnic's vision and development goals.

In a related development, members of the congregation conducted elections into the Budget Monitoring Committee. Dr. Abdurrahman Adamu emerged winner of the academic staff slot with 123 valid votes, defeating Dr. Wilfred A. Itankan, who secured 47 votes. In the non-teaching category, Malam Muniru M. Abubakar was elected unopposed with 95 valid votes.

Complementary elections were also conducted for the Selection Board Committee and Search Team to supersede an earlier exercise held on Tuesday. Mr. Odesanya Akeem Dele won a seat on the Selection Board Committee with 161 valid votes, while Mr. Nathaniel Mowa S. was elected unopposed with 155 votes. Mr. Chris J.D. Michael equally emerged unopposed for the Search Team position with 109 valid votes.

The congregation meeting ended with renewed calls for collaboration among staff and management to address existing challenges and sustain the institution's developmental strides.

FOUR DEPARTMENTS ELECT NEW HODs FOR THREE-YEAR TENURE AT FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC BALI

Bali, Taraba State – June 1, 2026

Federal Polytechnic Bali conducted a peaceful and transparent election on Monday, producing new Heads of Department (HODs) for four academic departments, marking another milestone in the institution's commitment to participatory governance and internal democracy.

The election, which took place at the Executive Lecture Theatre II, covered the Departments of Office Technology and Management, Agricultural Technology, Crop Production, and Civil Engineering. All candidates contested unopposed and presented their manifestos to academic staff before voting commenced.

In the Department of Office Technology and Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Nnaji Oluchi emerged victorious after securing all nine votes cast by accredited voters, representing 100% support. Similarly, the Departments of Crop Production and Civil Engineering recorded 100 per cent votes in favour of their respective candidates, with Yakubu Ismaila Rajab polling four votes and Engr. Araga O. Adamu secured four votes.

In the Department of Agricultural Technology, Danladi Samaila was elected after polling six votes out of seven accredited voters.

The election was conducted under a secret ballot system by an Electoral Committee chaired by Dr Yahaya Tukur. Other members of the committee included Dr Mohammed Abubakar Clarkson and Mr Gowon David, while Malam Mustapha Baba served as Secretary.

Speaking after the exercise, staff members commended the process, describing it as free, fair, transparent, and credible.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee and Director of Academic Planning, Dr Yahaya Tukur, lauded academic staff unions for their advocacy, which culminated in the amendment of the Polytechnic Act granting academic staff the right to elect their Heads of Department.

He congratulated the newly elected HODs and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by implementing the promises contained in their manifestos and providing effective leadership for their respective departments.

The successful conduct of the election underscores Federal Polytechnic Bali's dedication to democratic principles, accountability, and inclusive decision-making within the academic community.
