BREAKING: President Donald Trump’s administration has redesignated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern” over allegations of genocide against Christians.

The Christian genocide narrative in Nigeria supposedly gained traction after the address of Vice-President Kashim Shettima at the United Nations last week.

Shettima had said the situation in Gaza was “heart-wrenching” and demanded an immediate ceasefire that would birth Palestinians independence and create homes of their own on territories already recognised by the UN and international law.

He said a two-state solution remained the most viable path to peace and warned that continued neglect of international law only fuels propaganda and undermines global stability.

Many, including a Vatican Cardinal, had rejected the claim, saying both Christians and Muslims were victims of insecurity in Nigeria.

But in a post on social Media, on Friday, Trump said Christianity was facing an existential threat in Nigeria.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a “COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN” — But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!”

“I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.

“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”

During yesterday's session, the National Assembly's Joint Committee on Constitution Review gave unanimous support to the proposal for creating an additional state in the South East.

The committee has also approved the inclusion of independent candidates in every election and approved one extra seat for women in each state within both the Red and Green chambers of the National Assembly.

Currently, there are five states in the South East region: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo. This number is one less than the six states in the South-South, South West, North Central, and North East regions, and two fewer than the seven states in the North West. The committee supported this view during a two-day retreat in Lagos, where they evaluated proposals for creating 55 new states throughout the country.

During the meeting, which was led by Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin alongside House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, thorough discussions were held regarding these issue.

Senator Abdul Ningi from Bauchi Central proposed the motion to establish the new state, and it was seconded by Representative Ibrahim Isiaka of Ifo/Ewekoro, Ogun State.

The committee members all supported the motion, leading to its adoption.

The joint committee formed a subcommittee to evaluate requests for establishing more states and local government areas across all six geopolitical zones. The committee consists of one Senator and one Representative from each state.

A Police Constable known as Ukasha Muhammed has been allegedly shot and killed by a military personnel in Bauchi state.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, launched an investigation into the tragic incident, as he calls for calm among personnel and members of the public

A press release issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, CSP Ahmed Wakil. said, ”on October 10, 2025, at approximately 22:35 hours, a distress report was received by the Bauchi State Police Command regarding a violent incident involving a patrol team led by Inspector Hussaini Samaila, which occurred during a routine patrol in the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi.”

“The patrol team encountered an assault on one of its members, Constable Ukasha Muhammed (F/No 533164), by two individuals in front of Padimo Hotel. The remaining members of the team responded swiftly, resulting in the apprehension of one suspect, while the other escaped the scene,” the statement reads.

The apprehended suspect was identified as Private Usman Mubarak (23NA/84/5346), a soldier attached to the Special Task Force (STF) Operation Safe Haven, based in Jos, Plateau State.

Juliana Terzungwe: A Woman Driver at Dangote... In an industry historically led by men, Juliana Terzungwe Iorzaa is paving the way for women in Nigeria's logistics and petroleum distribution sector. At the age of 28, the driver from Benue has emerged as an emblem of determination, expertise, and advancement. In 2025, she gained recognition as one of the new petroleum truck drivers assigned by Dangote Oil.

Juliana, originally from Odukpani and now living in Calabar, Rivers State, embodies a tale of bravery and perseverance. Having graduated from the Akperan Orshi College of Agriculture in Yandev in 2021, she courageously chose to pursue an unconventional route.

Rather than waiting for a position in a corporate setting, she decided to pursue a career as a professional truck driver, a choice that ultimately transformed her career path and served as motivation for others.

To meet the qualifications for the position, Juliana enrolled at the Lafarge Driving Institute in Calabar. There, she underwent comprehensive training in advanced driving methods and safety standards for heavy-duty vehicles. Her dedication and discipline quickly distinguished her from her fellow trainees. As a result, in May 2024, she was hired by MDS Logistics as the company's first female truck driver. Later, she was promoted to the role of Delivery Officer in Aba.

On October 5, 2025, her career achieved an important milestone when Dangote Oil, the downstream division of the Dangote Group, officially allocated a petroleum truck to her as a part of its national fuel distribution network.
