CRIME BULLETIN

The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended an individual in connection with an attempted culpable homicide and the theft of a motorcycle, following an intervention by concerned youths in the Sabon Layi area of Bauchi.

On July 20, 2025, at about 1800 hours, the Command received information regarding two individuals confronted by irate youth in Sabon Layi. A team of detectives was promptly dispatched to the scene, arresting Jibrin Iliya, a 40-year-old male. He faces charges of attempted culpable homicide and motorcycle theft.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and an accomplice conspired to board a commercial motorcycle with malicious intent. During transit, they directed the motorcyclist, Sa’adu Manniru, a 30-year-old male resident of Kofar Wambai Bauchi, to a predetermined location. When Manniru halted to receive payment, the suspects allegedly attacked him with an axe, striking him on the head. The victim’s shouts drew the attention of bystanders, who responded collectively and pursued the assailants until the police arrived. The suspects were in the process of fleeing with Manniru's Bajaj motorcycle, registration number KTG 129 UV.

During interrogation, the suspect admitted to a three-year collaboration with an accomplice named Lauwali, a male from the Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State, specifically to steal motorcycles. Iliya acknowledged their involvement in the theft of three motorcycles from various locations, including Bauchi and Gombe. The stolen motorcycles were reportedly sold to a buyer in Gombe State. Iliya indicated that he had personally profited from these thefts, having received payments of N30,000 and N20,000 on different occasions.

Investigation efforts are ongoing. Upon conclusion, the suspect will be profiled and subsequently charged to court.

On 22 July 2025, at about 1500 hours, a 19-year-old individual, Esther Gambo, from Lemoro Village in Toro Local Government Area, Bauchi State, reportedly enticed two seven-year-old girls, Khadija Sama'ila and A'isha Dahiru, from Unguwan Sarkin Yaki Village.

Bauchi State Police Command Issues Warning Regarding Hazardous Climbing of Network Masts

The Bauchi State Police Command warned the public, particularly young individuals, regarding a trend involving climbing telecommunications masts. This perilous and reckless behaviour has culminated in several incidents, prompting the Command to take decisive action.

Recently, the Command has reported three significant cases where individuals attempted to commit su***de by scaling communication masts.

The first incident occurred on 16th June 2025, at about 12:00 hours, when one Adamu Salisu, a 22-year-old male known as "Sarkin Malaman Samarin Muda Lawal Market," ascended a network mast located near Kofar Dumi Primary School. He declared that he would not descend until Alhaji Bala Wunti returned his call to announce his candidacy for gubernatorial office.

The second incident transpired on 18th June 2025, at around 13:00 hours. Usman Nanu, a 35-year-old resident of the Kofar Dumi area of Bauchi metropolis, climbed a network mast at the same site to express his unwarranted support for the incumbent Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir CON (Kauran Bauchi). He lamented that he would not dismount until the Governor confirmed his intention to contest the presidential election of 2027.

The most recent incident occurred on 29th June 2025 at about 12:30 hours, involving one Alkassim Saidu Yakubu, a 37-year-old male from the Unguwan Magaji Inkil area of Bauchi metropolis, who scaled an MTN mast. He asserted that he would remain at the location until the Bauchi State Commissioner of Finance publicly declared his candidacy for the gubernatorial race in 2027.

In each instance, police detectives were promptly deployed to the scenes and successfully rescued the individuals, who were subsequently apprehended for attempting to commit su***de. The individuals have acknowledged their actions and expressed remorse for their "unaware" behaviour. They will be subjected to profiling and legal charges in accordance with the law.

Commissioner of Police CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, psc(+), mni, has expressed his miffed response to the emerging and perilous trend observed among certain youth in Bauchi State. He underscored the public's need to abstain from such activities to ensure their safety, stating that individuals who partake in these actions will be subject to the full consequences of the law.

Moreover, the Commissioner calls upon parents, guardians, and influential leaders to advise their wards against engaging in disruptive behaviours and making inciting remarks or gestures that may undermine the fragile peace in the State. He further asserted that anyone found liable or indirectly contributing to the destabilisation of peace will be apprehended, investigated, and prosecuted for the offences established against them.

BAUCHI STATE POLICE COMMAND PRESS RELEASE

June 12, 2025

CRIME BULLETIN

The Editors,

The Bauchi State Police Command has successfully apprehended a notorious identity thief, fraudster, and cybercrime suspect, Umar Yau, known as "Snake," aged 25, resident of Yelwan Makaranta area of Bauchi. This arrest resulted from an extensive investigation initiated by a petition lodged by Mrs Fatimah Faiz Ali Bawahab, an online businesswoman.

The petition outlined a series of fraudulent activities attributed to an individual utilising a deceptive online identity and operating two bank accounts. In March 2022, one Nafiu Muhd alerted the complainant, Mrs Bawahab, regarding an individual using the Facebook username "Amizeebaby Muhd." The suspect was advertising an online business and soliciting payments to a First Bank account registered in the name of Hansatu Yau. Following the payment made by Mr Muhd, he was subsequently blocked from further communication, leading to suspicions that the accused employed multiple accounts to facilitate these fraudulent transactions, including First Bank (Hansatu Yau), PalmPay, and Momo Payment Service Bank (Umar Yau).

Subsequent incidents emerged in early 2023 when various individuals informed Mrs Bawahab that a Facebook account impersonating her with her name and photographs had been created. This account was reported to have actively defrauded innocent individuals online through payments directed to the same First Bank account named Hansatu Yau. The fraudulent demands persisted until the victims contacted Mrs Bawahab for verification, at which point they realised they had fallen victim to a scam. It became evident that Mrs Bawahab was being impersonated by an unknown perpetrator to execute these fraudulent activities.

In an effort to identify the individual responsible, Mrs. Bawahab engaged with the unknown person, who insisted upon receiving payments through the previously identified fraudulent bank accounts.

Upon receipt of the petition, the Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Police Command directed the CP Monitoring Unit to conduct a thorough and discreet investigation. On June 5, 2025, at about 21:00 hours, detectives employed technology-driven investigative techniques, successfully identifying Umar Yau as the individual behind the Facebook account "amizeebabymuhd." Investigation results indicated that Umar Yau had been engaged in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public online since 2019 through numerous accounts, including First Bank and PalmPay, registered under the names Yau Hansatu and Umar Yau.

During the arrest, the detectives recovered several items from the suspect, including:
- Nine (9) ATM cards from various banks, alongside a completed FCMB account opening form that was filled out without the consent of his sister, Maryam Yau, along with her academic documents.
- Two (2) National Identification Number (NIN) plastic cards bearing the suspect's information.
- Three (3) Voter's cards reflecting the suspect's details.
- Three (3) new SIM cards from different telecommunications providers.
- One (1) ZTE Universal Mobile 4G MiFi device.
- One (1) Infinix Smart 9 smartphone box.

During interrogation, Umar Yau confessed to his extensive experience in fraud, spanning five years. He further acknowledged extending his criminal activities to cryptocurrency, where he reportedly defrauded approximately 40 victims of their funds through various marketing schemes.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu psc(+), mni, reaffirmed the Command's commitment to combatting cybercrime and cautioned the public against engaging in deceptive and criminal behaviours, underscoring that the law will not be lenient on offenders.

Following a preliminary investigation, the Bauchi State Police Command has officially transferred the case and the suspect to the Kano State Police Command for continued investigation and potential prosecution for the established offences.

BAUCHI STATE POLICE COMMAND
PRESS RELEASE

7TH JUNE 2025.

TRENDING VIDEO DISCREDITING THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE BAUCHI STATE POLICE COMMAND MISLEADING; A CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE NEWS SHARING

The Bauchi State Police Command seeks to address the recent circulation of misleading information on social media regarding a video that allegedly portrays motorcyclists disseminating misinformation and disinformation. Such conduct can incite fear, confusion, and unrest within the community.

This behaviour appears to be a deliberate attempt to mislead the public and foster animosity towards the Nigeria Police Force. Posting offensive and defamatory content and disseminating false information constitute a provocation of public disorder and violations of safety regulations,

The crux of the matter was that on June 5, 2025, at about 09:00 hours, a patrol unit encountered a significant incident along Tulu Road involving a group of motorcyclists travelling to Kibiya Rano Local Government Area, Kano State, for the Sallah celebrations. In the interest of public safety, the patrol team signalled for the motorcyclists to halt.

One motorcyclist, Ladan Haruna, aged 35, from Unguwan Liman in Kibiya Rano Local Government Area, Kano State, did not comply with the officers' request to reduce his speed. This noncompliance resulted in a collision with a log situated at the checkpoint, causing serious injuries to both Haruna and his passenger, Ibrahim Abubakar, who is also 35 years of age. Following this incident, several other motorcyclists reacted aggressively, inflicting physical harm upon Police Officer Inspector Salisu Adamu, who is attached to the Rishi Divisional Police Headquarters, and causing significant damage to the patrol vehicle's windscreen and structure.

In response to the escalating situation, an additional team of personnel was promptly dispatched to support the initial patrol unit and restore order at the scene. The injured individuals received immediate medical attention at Rishi Primary Health Care Center.

The Nigeria police Bauchi State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to safeguarding all citizens and ensuring their safety on the roads. We urge all individuals to cooperate with law enforcement officers and adhere to traffic regulations to prevent similar unfortunate incidents in the future.

The events of June 5 highlight the critical importance of collaboration between motorists and security personnel. Compliance with law enforcement requests can significantly enhance public safety.

- Cooperation with security personnel is essential for fostering safer road conditions for all.
- Adherence to traffic laws not only aids in accident prevention but also facilitates a smoother traffic flow.
- We encourage all road users to exercise caution and demonstrate respect during interactions with security personnel.

We advocate for ongoing cooperation within the community and with security agencies to create a safe and secure environment for everyone. Collaborative efforts can strengthen trust and promote community among all residents.

The command under the leadership of CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu psc(+)mni urges all citizens to be cautious about the information they share and to refrain from actions that may disrupt public order or threaten the safety of others
