Last Wednesday 15th July 2026, the former NAPIMS Chief, Bala Wunti, clarified before the Senate that the alleged ₦210 trillion discrepancy involving NNPC Ltd. is a fundamental misunderstanding of standard accounting.
During his testimony, Wunti explained that the figure resulted from a misinterpretation of receivables and liabilities, and maintained that no fraud or misappropriation occurred during his stewardship. Beyond the headlines, he also provided clear context on incorporation costs and explained the unique, complex nature of NNPC’s financial reporting.
