Untold Story About Otukpo

What many Idomas do not know is that the Igedes has been a major driver of the Otukpo rice mill industry in the 70s,80s,90s, and 2000s

The Otukpo rice mill industry, the only thriving industry in the whole of the Idoma land then, was highly dominated and owned by non-indigenes.

The Igedes largely owned and pioneered the growth of that rice mill industry.

At one point, the Otukpo rice mill was known as the largest rice mill in West Africa.

How did I know?

My father was an engineer there and my uncles owned many of the Engines and were largely bringing in raw rice into the Otukpo rice mill industry.

While most of the idomas were doing menial jobs there.

With all the so-called big names from Idoma land, can they mention any significant growth or major achievements in Idoma land?

Their major achievements are to have bullï£d the Igede tribe, the Igbo tribes, the Hausa and the Yorubas that developed the Idoma land.

*From the rice mill industry

* To the Otukpo main market

* To the thriving supermarkets.

* To medicine stores, pharmacies.

Etc.

The majority of these were owned by non-indigenes, not Idomas.

As someone who was born and schooled in Otukpo, I can tell you for free that an average IDOMA YOUTH IS LAZIER.

* THEY ONLY SIT AND WAIT FOR FREE MONEY FROM POLITICIANS, THOSE WHO HAVE EARNED THEIR HARD MONEY.

* AN AVERAGE IDOMA IS A TAX COLLECTOR.

*AN AVERAGE IDOMA IS A BULLY.

* AN AVERAGE IDOMA IS ENTITLED.

AN AVERAGE IDOMA MAN IS FULL OF PRIDE.

It is not today that they have started bullyïñg the igedes, but the igedes will keep excelling.

Their pain is that they COULDN'T SUBDUE THE IGEDES AND USE THEM AGAINST THE TIVS.

From Pst Abraham Daniel

Meanwhile: FGC Otobi and FSTC Otukpo were established by Igede man, Otukpo normally belong to Igede people. 😒

President Tinubu To Boost Igede Agba Tourism With Road Construction To Oju-Obi LGA's

By Doofan Agah

President Bola Tinubu has plegded to support the tourism potentials of annual Igede Agba new yam festival in Benue state, with a commitment to complete the Oweto-Otukpo road through Obi and Oju Federal Constituency to terminate in Cross River State.

The President who gave the commitment in Oju Benue State tasked the traditional institution to rally round rural communities and support government initiatives and projects across the country to deliver dividends of democracy to the people .

The Igede annual new yam festival popularly known as Igede Agba has continued to promote the rich cultural heritage of the Igede speaking people of the Benue South senatorial district of the State over the years attracting dignitaries from across the country.

Top on the list this year was the number one citizen of the country President Bola Tinubu who was the special guest of honour, he was represented by the Secretary to The Government Of The Federation George Akume.

Failed roads, lack of portable water and insecurity topped the list of requests presented to the President.

The President then launches some empowerment items and hospital equipment to support local health care services.

Highpoint of the 2025 Igede Agba festival was the President's commitment to end many years of untold hardship due to lack of basic infrastructure such as access roads, health care facilitates as well as portable water.

Sir, Dr Daniel Okwoche wrote.👇

We must honestly learn to appreciate people's efforts however little or meaningless they may look at face value level. Rt HON Ogewu has successfully put IGEDE on the world map not just Nigerian map.
He just began his political journey about two years ago and has been able to bring WHO IS WHO in Nigeria to IGEDE land. The AUGUST visitors may not have magically transformed our land (be they roads, hospitals, schools, challenges of Youths employment or what have you) into our expected dreams YET. HOWEVER there is surely light at the end of the tunnel. One day one of the BIG MEN/WOMEN will speak for the land. They will not speak in defence of poverty in Adum-Owo or Ogewu's family, but for IGEDE Nation.
My humble prayer is that we all who desire the good of IGEDE Should learn to appreciate little efforts however small they may appear
The question I always ask is, for those that have seen nothing good in Rt HON Ogewu's gestures, let them show to us the land -slide development they are able to bring to their own families,( not their village yet) then it will prove that their castigating others is not for nothing. Period. Thanks Michael Ella

Can you read this pls...IGEDE IS NOT IDOMA
Idoma Monarch Nullifies Igede Chieftaincy Titles

The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC), led by His Royal Majesty Agaba Idu Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo Obagaji John, CON, the Och'Idoma V, has declared null and void the chieftaincy titles conferred by HRM Oga Ero, Adirahu Ny’Igede, during the 2025 Igede Agba Festival. The titles, bestowed on September 6, 2025. The council invoked the Benue State Chieftaincy Law 2016, affirming its authority over conferments in Idomaland.

According to the Idoma Area Traditional Council, the conferment of titles by the Igede Traditional Council directly violates the council's declaration of September 2, 2025, which suspended all chieftaincy title conferments across Idoma land. The council emphasized that any acts contrary to its directives constitute a breach of extant law.

The council has directed government institutions, traditional stakeholders, and the public to disregard the disputed titles, warning that recognition could lead to disorder. This decision underscores the council's commitment to preserving the dignity of the chieftaincy institution and maintaining peace, unity, and order within Idoma land.
