“THE ONLY REGRET IN MY MUSICAL LIFE IS TO SING AGAINST BAGO DURING 2023 GENERAL ELECTION” - PRINCE MK BAAGI
During an exclusive interview session with Point Blank, renowned Nupe musician Prince MK Baagi opened up about one of the most defining moments of his career, describing it as his biggest musical regret. According to him, “The only regret in my musical life is singing against Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago during the 2023 general elections.”
Prince MK Baagi explained that at the time, his decision to perform songs opposing Governor Bago’s political ambition was not born out of hatred or any personal issue, but rather out of circumstances surrounding the heated political atmosphere of that period. Reflecting on it now, he said the move remains one of his greatest missteps as an artist, adding that he has since come to admire and respect Governor Bago’s leadership and developmental strides in Niger State.
Speaking further, Prince Mk Baagi clarified that his involvement with the opposition candidate, Alhaji Issa Liman Kantigi, during the 2023 elections, was purely out of affection and admiration for Kantigi as an individual. He emphasized that it was never a politically motivated contract or a paid engagement. In his words, the hit campaign song “Sunyi Felin” was a project he did from his own heart and creative passion, stressing that “no one sponsored or funded the song—it was simply out of love for Kantigi.”
