๐ The Ruling on Celebrating the Prophetโs Birthday (Maulud)

Shaykh Salih al-Fawzan (may Allah preserve him) said:

Oh Muslims,

ู ุนุฏุฉ ูุฌูู:
Celebrating the birthday of the Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ is false and forbidden for several reasons:
ุฃููุงู: ุฃูู ุจุฏุนุฉ ูู ุงูุฏููุ ููู ุจุฏุนุฉ ุถูุงูุฉุ ููู ูุณุชุทูุน ุงูุฐูู ูุฑูู ุฅูุงู
ุชู ุฃู ูููู
ูุง ุนููู ุฏูููุงู ู
ู ุงูุดุฑุน.
First: It is an innovation in the religion, and every innovation is misguidance.
Those who advocate for it cannot establish any proof for it from the Shariโah.

Second: It is an imitation of the Christians in their celebration of the birth of Prophet Isah (peace be upon him), and we have been forbidden to imitate them.

ุซุงููุง.
Third: It often involves prohibited and evil acts, the most serious of which are:
- Associating partners with Allah by calling upon the Messenger ๏ทบ and seeking his help.
- Reciting poems of shirk in his praise, such as al-Burdah and others like it.
- ุฑุงุจุนุงู: ุฃูู ููุณ ูู ุงูุฅุณูุงู
ุฅูุง ุนูุฏุงู: ุนูุฏ ุงูุฃุถุญู ูุนูุฏ ุงููุทุฑ ุงูู

Fourth: There are only two Eids in Islam: Eidul-Adha and Eid ul-Fitr. Whoever introduces a third Eid has introduced into Islam what does not belong to it.

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated:

The Prophet ๏ทบ came to Madinah and the people had two days in which they used to play.
He said: โWhat are these two days?โ
They said: โWe used to play on them in Jahiliyyah.โ
The Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ said:
โAllah has replaced them for you with something better: Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr.โ
(Narrated by Abu Dawud, Ahmad, and al-Nasaโi. Its chain is according to the conditions of Muslim).
ูุงุชููุง ุงููู ุนุจุงุฏ ุงูููุ ูุงุญุฐุฑูุง ุงูุจุฏุน ูุงูู
ุฎุงููุงุชุ
ูุงูุฒู
ูุง ุงูุณููุ ูุงุชุจุนูุง ููุง ุชุจุชุฏุนูุง.
So fear Allah, O servants of Allah, and beware of innovations and violations.
Adhere to the Sunnah, follow, and do not innovate.
ูุงู ุชุนุงูู:
Allah the Exalted said:
"ููุฃูููู ููุฐูุง ุตูุฑูุงุทูู ู
ูุณูุชููููู
ูุง ููุงุชููุจูุนูููู ูููุง ุชูุชููุจูุนููุง ุงูุณููุจููู ููุชูููุฑูููู ุจูููู
ู ุนููู ุณูุจูููููู ุฐูููููู

ู ุจููู ููุนููููููู

โAnd, [moreover], this is My path, which is straight, so follow it; and do not follow [other] ways, for you will be separated from His way. This has He instructed you that you may become righteous.โ
(al-Anโam 6:153)
