A 3 YEAR WAIT NIGER ORPHANAGE PROJECT STILL GROUNDED OVER LAND
For more than three years, associates of the late Engr. Abdulkadir Kure and the Saifudeen family in Saudi Arabia have been committed to building an orphanage in Niger State. The initiative was meant to honor Kure’s legacy and give back to communities in need.
Yet, the project remains on hold. The Niger State Government has not provided land for construction to start.
Determined to keep it alive, the Lapai Emirate took action on its own. It identified and secured 28 hectares of land worth roughly ₦198 million, then formally wrote to the state government to facilitate payment and acquisition. That step was supposed to clear the way for the Saudi sponsors to begin building.
But since that correspondence, there has been no meaningful response.
Findings show the process has been left in limbo. The pledge dates back to 2022 and received official government recognition in July 2023, yet no action has followed.
This is not a political matter. It is about compassion — creating a safe home where vulnerable children can access shelter, education, healthcare, and a chance at a better life.
The Saifudeen family chose Niger State for this gift because of the mutual respect and friendship they shared with Engr. Kure during his governorship from 1999 to 2007.
Watching such a transformative opportunity stall is deeply disheartening.
Niger State cannot keep letting initiatives that would benefit orphans and the underprivileged fall through the cracks. Urgent government intervention is needed before this vision is lost.
