₦20 Million to Contest for a ₦5.6 Million Salary: The APC way.
The annual basic salary of a State House of Assembly member in Nigeria, as determined by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), ranges between ₦1.3 million and ₦1.4 million, while the Speaker earns about ₦1.6 million annually. Over a four-year term, a member would receive approximately ₦5.6 million in basic salary.
When a political party sets the price of its nomination form at ₦20 million, excluding campaign expenses, you will agree with me that such a system encourages corruption and creates pressure on successful candidates to recover their expenses once in office.
Under such conditions, it becomes difficult to expect genuine commitment to public welfare. Issues such as reliable power supply, quality education, accessible healthcare, security, and efficient transportation risk being sidelined when politics becomes primarily a financial investment rather than a platform for service.
They have removed subsidy, borrowed from different lenders and increase tax to all time high. When the people call for better treatment from these leaders they get arrested.
When many people struggle to secure even a single daily meal, items like a 10kg bag of rice can easily become powerful political tools during elections.
They killed Nigeria's struggling multiparty system and pocket the electoral process. It is either you join them or go home and sleep 😡.
