Your Money is Yours, but the Country’s Resources Belong to Everyone!
A student shares his experience:
"When I arrived in Hamburg, one of my colleagues there arranged a welcome gathering for me at a restaurant.
As we entered, we noticed that many tables were empty, except for one small table where a young couple sat with only two plates and two drink cans in front of them. I wondered if such a simple meal could be romantic and what the girl might think about her partner’s stinginess.
There were also a few elderly ladies sitting nearby.
Our friend placed the order, and since we were hungry, we ordered a lot.
As the restaurant was quiet, the food arrived quickly. We didn’t take long to eat, and when we left, about a third of the food remained on our plates.
Just as we were reaching the door, a voice called out to us.
We noticed that the elderly ladies were speaking with the restaurant owner, pointing towards us.
When they addressed us, we understood that they were upset about the amount of food we had wasted.
My friend responded, 'We paid for the food we ordered, so why are you interfering in something that doesn't concern you?'
One of the ladies gave us a very stern look, then picked up the phone and called someone.
After a while, a man in uniform arrived, introducing himself as an officer from the Social Security Institution. He issued us a fine of €50.
We all remained silent.
My friend took out €50 and handed it to the officer, along with an apology.
The officer firmly said, 'Order only the amount of food you can consume. Your money is yours, but resources belong to everyone. Many people around the world suffer from a lack of resources. You have no reason to waste them.'
Our faces turned red with embarrassment, but in the end, we agreed with him.
We truly need to reflect on this and change our bad habits.
My friend took a picture of the fine and gave each of us a copy as a keepsake.
"Your money is yours, but resources belong to everyone."
The month of Ramadan is around, and we should be the first to implement this principle.
“Do not waste.”
*Thank you to those who read this message, act on it and helped spread awareness about avoiding waste and preserving blessings.*
"Eat and drink, but do not be wasteful. Indeed, He does not like those who waste." (Quran 7:31)
