WHEN WORKERS ARE IGNORED BUT A CASH IS SHARED, IS THIS GOVERNANCE?he

Yesterday evening, I came across a news report stating that the Federal Government has provided cash transfers to over 34 million vulnerable Nigerians, with plans to increase the number to 50 million.

I was genuinely shocked. I became speechless. I couldn’t immediately process the information or even decide how to react to it. So many questions ran through my mind. Questions I couldn’t answer. I felt the urge to discuss it with someone, but I was on an extra work shift and had no such opportunity.

As I reflected on the news, I began to ask myself:

Who exactly qualifies as a vulnerable Nigerian?

What metrics or criteria were used to determine vulnerability?

Who are these beneficiaries?

From which parts of Nigeria were they selected?

When and how was their data collected?

Who authorized these transfers?

How much was transferred to each beneficiary?

These questions and many more have remained unanswered since yesterday.
I speak as a concerned Nigerian, genuinely seeking clarity. There are Nigerians who work tirelessly every day to contribute to the development of this nation, yet their welfare remains largely unaddressed. In contrast, the government appears able to disburse cash transfers to tens of millions of people with relative ease and is even planning to expand the number.

I am simply asking for transparency.
I am looking for answers.

THE NEW TAX LAW
I have not read the new tax law Act. What I've seen online are reviews and opinions made by people about the Act. I have also heard about the alleged altering of the National Assembly approved version before gazetting.

One thing that is widely said though is that the new tax law doesn't directly affect the poor as only those earning 800k above per annum will be taxed. Raging from 15%, 18%, 21%, 23% of Total income per annum.

The implication of this is that, those earning 800k below will be taxed indirectly because the people earning 800k above are either service producers or sellers of goods. If they get taxed by government, they included it in price of goods and services.

It would have been better if it's the government that tax the poor directly than to leave them at the mercy of service providers and goods sellers. The repercussion of this is inflation which is like adding fuel to a burning fire.

It is well Sha. We hope for better days ahead.

The level at which crime and criminality is flourishing among people of different ages in Nigeria is appalling. We have to rise and unite against this. We must stop it now or fail to stop it tomorrow.
