Senator representing Southern Borno Sen Muhammad Ali Ndume convened an emergency meeting of elders of Southern Borno in Abuja on 29th February 2024 which was well attended to discuss the burning issue of merging NAUB with NDA as pronounced by the Federal Government after it's Federal Executive Council meeting on Monday 26th February 2024. As a result of that announcement by FG, there have been reactions from our people, Borno State Governor Prof Zulum and other Nigerians pleading with FG to reconsider it's decision on merging NAUB with NDA.
In the first instance NAUB was not part of Oronsaye Report that was submitted in 2012.
2.NAUB was established in 2018 by an act of the National Assembly. All due processes were followed from the conception stage, National University Commission, Federal Ministry of Education, National Assembly and the Presidency. In view of this development, the meeting discussed exhaustively and resolved to formally write to the Presidential Committee on the implementation of the Oronsaye Report stating all the facts and our prayer that NAUB be delisted among the Institutions to be merged. Already our National Assembly members, BSHA members, imminent stakeholders of Borno State are making all necessary contacts to ensure that NAUB remains an Institution of excellence in Science and technology geared towards providing credible solutions to the Military and Nation.
The meeting therefore called on our people especially the young ones to exercise caution in expressing their views over this development. Our Representatives in Government shall continue to pursue this issue administratively to it's logical conclusion and Inshaa Allah we shall overcome.
