News 1::: The People’s Democratic Party has stated that former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, cannot be sanctioned for alleged anti-party activities unless a formal petition is submitted with supporting evidence. According to the party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Mr. Okechukwu Osuoha, although a disciplinary committee has been established to investigate and address internal infractions, no action has been taken against any member so far due to the absence of officially filed complaints. Osuoha, speaking in Abuja on Monday, stated that while the party’s National Executive Committee has established a disciplinary committee led by elder statesman Chief Tom Ikimi, with Eyitayo Jegede as secretary, no member has been sanctioned to date. “People often ask me specifically about the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike — why don’t we discipline him? Why don’t we take action? I tell them: It is not enough to merely say someone has committed an offence,” Osuoha stated. He emphasised that anyone accusing a party member must file a formal petition and be ready to testify and present evidence when the accused is summoned. “When that petition is written and presented, the petitioner must also be ready to come and testify. If the person accused is invited, you must come with your evidence,” he said. According to Osuoha, the challenges facing disciplinary enforcement are not unique to the PDP but reflect broader systemic issues in Nigeria’s political and legal institutions. “This is the same problem with our wider Nigerian system. It is not just about pointing out anomalies; the challenge is following them up to a conclusion,” he said.
News 2::: Remi Tinubu, the first lady of Nigeria, says she will dedicate her 65th birthday coming up on September 21 to the completion of the National Library project.
In a video shared on social media, Remi said she would spend the day quietly in thanksgiving to God and urged well-wishers to direct gifts and greetings towards the cause. The first lady said her love for education informed her decision to dedicate her birthday to the project. “I will be turning 65 years old on the 21st September and this happens to be a Sunday. This is why I have decided to dedicate the day to God for all His blessings in my life by having a quiet birthday,” she said. Remi appealed to friends and supporters who may wish to send cards, cakes, flowers, newspaper messages or other presents to instead send funds to an account designated for the library project. The initiative, she said is being coordinated by the federal ministry of education under the “Oluremi at 65 Education Fund.” “The completion of the national library, This would be the best birthday present I could receive. My love for education has informed my decision to dedicate my birthday to this worthy cause,” she added. In March Tunji Alausa, the minister of education, said the federal government plans to complete the first phase of the national library project by June 2025. There has, however, been no publicly available update on the completion status of the phase since the March announcement. The national library was first designed in 1981, with construction beginning in 2006 and an initial completion target set for 2008.
