The Governor of Rivers State, His Excellency, Amaopusenibo Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, has expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo for making the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the Ibani nation proud by being on top of his game in terms of impactful representation.
Governor Fubara who was represented by his Chief-of-Staff, Rt Hon Ehie Edison, esq., PhD, spoke today while commisioning two Ultra-Modern Town Halls for Akiama and Aganya Communities in Bonny which were built from scratch to finish by Mr Speaker.
The Governor highlighted the robust relationship that exists between the Executive and the Legislative arms of government in Rivers State which is the catalyst for the independent progress of the both arms, underscoring the hallmark of the day's commissioning program, while assuring of his readiness for further synergy for the overall good of the State.
In his remark, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Victor Oko-Jumbo said the need-gap analysis he conducted during campaign season around 2022/2023 in collaboration with both Akiama and Aganya Communities was what birthed the two 500 capacity town Halls.
He said " our need-to-gap analysis indicated a dire need for women Hall in Akiama and Aganya. So when we came on board, we did not hesitate to bridge the gap by reaching out to the two communities through these projects that they had requested and it was built to taste with conveniences, airconditioned offices, chairs and other accessories"
Highpoint of the day was the award of full undergraduate scholarship to 30 constituents, and the distribution of a whooping 10 million naira business support grant to 100 people ranging from 200,000, 100,000 and 50,000 naira respectively.
The event had the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Timothy Adolphus Orubienimigha, Leader of the House, Hon Sokari Goodboy Sokari in attendance. Also in the occasion were; the Honourable Commissioner for Urban Development and Physical Planning; Hon Evans Babakaye Bipi, the Executive Chairman of Bonny LGA; Dame Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox, and the Chairman of the APC in Rivers State; Chief Emeka Beke.
Other dignitaries in attendance were; the Mayor of Port Harcourt; Hon Ezebunwo Ichemati, the Chairman of Emuoha LGA; Chief David Omereji, the Chairman of Omuma LGA; Hon Reginald Promise and the Chairman of Etche LGA; Hon Uzodinma Nwafor amongst other prominent politicians, Board Members, Heads of Agencies, community leaders and constituents.

All 8 passengers in Bonny chopper disaster feared dead — Police

NSIB investigates helicopter crash

The Eastwind Aviation helicopter that crashed into Bonny River, in Rivers State, yesterday, has claimed the lives of its eight occupants.

The helicopter, carrying eight persons, six passengers and two crew members, crashed from Port Harcourt Military base to FPSO NUIM ANTAN (offshore Calabar).

Rivers State Police Command said all eight persons aboard the helicopter that ditched into the Atlantic Ocean have been reportedly dead.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, in a statement in Port Harcourt, yesterday, said: “The Rivers State Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident that occurred today, at 11am.

“Mr. Ifeanyi Udogwu, a staff of Antan Producing Limited, Port Harcourt, reported to the Command that a helicopter with the call sign number 5N-BQG (S76C+), belonging to East Wing Aviation, departed from the NAF Base in Port Harcourt. The flight was bound for Nuim Antan OML123 fields, carrying two crew members and six passengers.

“Unfortunately, about 11a.m., the helicopter reportedly ditched into the ocean near Antan Producing Limited’s Mimbo platform and FPSO. All eight persons onboard are feared dead.

“The Marine Division of the Rivers State Police Command is cooperating with other agencies to recover the aircraft and the occupants.

“The Rivers State Police Command extends its deepest condolences to the families of the tragic times.

The incident was confirmed in a statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Odutayo Oluseyi.

Meanwhile, BonnyTv gathered that the oil workers were contract staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited, NNPCL.

The statement said that three bodies have been recovered so far from the crashed helicopter, while search and rescue operations were ongoing to locate the remaining passengers.

“It said the helicopter, a Sikorsky SK76 with registration 5NBQG and operated by East Wind Aviation, was from Port Harcourt Military Base, DNPM, to the Nuimantan Oil Rig.

“The aircraft, with eight persons on board, ditched into the waters near Bonny Finima in the Atlantic Ocean.

“The National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has been notified and emergency response teams were immediately activated.

“Search and rescue operations are ongoing with the support of the Nigerian Search and Rescue Unit, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, the National Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, and other relevant agencies. Neighbouring aerodromes have also been notified for support.

“While no Emergency Locator Transmitter, ELT, signal was received, manual efforts to plot the location of the accident are underway.

“And all available resources, including the military and low-flying aircraft, have been deployed to assist in locating and rescuing any survivor(s). So far, three bodies have been recovered,” the statement added.

NSIB investigates helicopter crash

Meanwhile, NSIB, has commenced investigation into the accident.
A statement by Director, Public Affairs and Family Assistance of NSIB, Mrs. Bimbo Oladeji, said: “Operating under Visual Flight Rules, VFR, the helicopter did not transmit an Emergency Locator Transmitter, ELT, signal, prompting authorities to manually plot the accident’s location to expedite search and rescue efforts.

Search and rescue operations were activated immediately, with the NSIB collaborating closely with NEMA, NCAA, the Nigerian Armed Forces and other relevant agencies. Emergency response teams are actively working to locate survivors, with three bodies recovered so far. The search continues with support from neighbouring aerodromes, military units, and low-flying aircraft.

Quoting the Director General of NSIB, Captain Alex Badeh Jr., the statement added: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this tragic incident. We are fully committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding this accident. We will work diligently to ensure that all necessary information is collected. The public must avoid speculation during this sensitive time, as our focus is on providing clarity and accountability through our investigation.”

OKO FLAG-OFF TOWN HALL PROJECT AT AGANYA COMMUNITY, ASSURES OF 11 MONTHS COMPLETION
The Member representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Comr Victor Oko-Jumbo was in his Constituency yesterday flagging off a town hall project for the people of Aganya community in fulfilment of the request by the people of Ward 3 during the electioneering period.
While performing the ground-breaking ceremony, Hon Oko-Jumbo who stated that the project was to be funded from his monthly salary, said it was being done as part of his commitment to the request of his constituents, calling for stakeholders' support to foster the completion of the project in record time, just as he commended the Executive Chairman of Council, Dame Hon Anengi Barasua Claude-Wilcox DSSRS, on her two years anniversary in office, urging her to keep up the good work she was already doing.

Finima: Court Restrains Bonny Monarch, Chiefs, Others from Recognizing Claimant to Buoye Omuso Stool

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has restrained the Traditional Institution in Bonny LGA, Public and Private Sector Institutions, International Oil and Gas Companies IOCs), amongst others from recognizing or having dealings with Evans Clement Brown as the Chief and Head of the Buoye Omuso Brown Chieftaincy House (BOBH) of Finima.

Specifically, the Court restrained the Amanyanabo and Natural Ruler of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, JP, Perekule XI, the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG), Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited, and Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPNU), amongst others from dealing with Evans Clement Brown in his capacity as the Chief and Head of the BOBH.

Justice G. C. Aguma gave the ruling on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, in Suit No: PHC/329/CS/2022, wherein Evans Clement Brown was the defendant/respondent while his main contender for the stool of Omuso (Buoye Omuso Brown House), Aseme Alabo Dagogo Lambert Brown, and 11 others were the claimants/applicants.

The defendant, Evans Clement Buoye Brown was installed on Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Captain Hart House Opuwari (community hall) in Bonny as the Chief and Head of the Brown (Buoye Omuso) Chieftaincy House, Omuso IX, by the Chief and Head of Captain Hart House, Se-Alabo Reginald Fiene Peter Abbey-Hart, MON, JP, Captain Hart XIII.

He was later presented to the Amanyanabo of Bonny Kingdom, His Majesty, King Dr Edward Asimini William Dappa Pepple III, CON, JP, Perekule XI, at the King Perekule Palace, Bonny for induction into the Bonny Chiefs Council (BCC), by Chief Captain Hart XIII.

BONNY LOCAL GOVERNMENT LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL (9TH ASSEMBLY) KICKS OFF FIRST EDITION OF "THE BONNY 9TH ASSEMBLY FOOTBALL COMPETITION" CALLS IT A UNIFYING FACTOR

The Bonny Local Government Legislative Council (9th Assembly) kicked off the first edition of the "Bonny 9th Assembly Football Tournament" today 18th September 2021 at the Bonny Government Primary School Field.

In his opening remark the leader of the 9th Assembly, Rt. Hon Larry ID Ibaningo said, the tournament is organized to unify the twelve wards in the LGA and in memory of the late LGA Chairman, Rt. Hon. David Rogers Irimagha, as today marks one year after his departure from the earth. He further urged all to key into the dream behind the tournament, and appreciated his colleagues and all the various sponsors of the tournament.

In her remark the Executive Chairman of Bonny Local Government Council, Dame Hon Anengi Barasua Claude Wilcox, applauds the 9th Assembly for initiating this tournament as it is a welcomed development. She also payed tribute to her late boss, who his remembrance is held today, and pray for continue synergy between the executive and the legislature.

The leader of Bonny LGA PDP and former commissioner of Local Government Affairs, Hon (Dr) Rodaford Opuwari Longjohn, commended the 9th Assembly, for always standing out.

The first kick off match was between Ward Seven and Ward ten which saw Ward seven beating Ward 10 3-1. The action continues tomorrow as Ward 8 tackles Ward 11 by 3:30pm at the same venue.

In attendance were; the Vice Chairman of Bonny Local Government; Wariopusenibo Omoni Longjohn, Councillors representing their various wards in the 9th Assembly, Former CTC Chairmen; Hon Simon Hart, Hon Ibietonye Benjamin and Hon Adonye Wilcox, Supervisors, Advisers, Party faithfuls government officials, and spectators.
