VIOLENT ENCOUNTER ON A PLANE ๐ซ ๐ฑ
Popular journalist and writer Noo Saro-wiwa the daughter of 'Ken Saro-wiwa ' Ogoni martyr, laments an incidence that occurred during her night flight recently.
She wrote ๐:
These racist MAGAs are getting bold. A story:
On Sunday I was sleeping during a night flight, my seat reclined, when I was jolted awake by a violent force behind me. The mullet-haired American passenger in the row behind had pushed my seat so hard it went back into the takeoff position. Iโd already sensed racist vibes from him, so I reclined my chair again. When the man pushed it violently a second time things kicked off.
We argued. He claimed the announcer had told us to put our seats in the upright position for landing. Even if that had been true, I wouldnโt have heard it because I was asleep. He couldโve tried asking politely like any normal person.
โWhatโs your real issue with me?โ I asked. He just smirked and continued insisting Iโm in the wrong. So confident was he of his privilege he called over the flight attendants. They werenโt much help to either of us.
I then told the man and his girlfriend that I was a professional journalist and would escalate this issue. The pair grew defensive. The woman now claimed that her boyfriend was โdeafโ and I was discriminating against him. (Iโd been arguing with him for 5 minutes - he had no trouble hearing me. And how would deafness justify anything anyway?!).
โIf youโre going to lie,โ I told her, โat least be more intelligent about it.โ
I took a photo of them and repeated - in my extra deep voice - that I was a professional journalist; that theyโd โpicked the wrong person to mess withโ and I would escalate things if he didnโt apologise to me.
Thatโs when they piped down.
โIโm sorry,โ he murmured.
โSorry for what?โ I replied. โState EXACTLY what youโre sorry for.โ
โIโm sorry for pushing your chair.โ
Thirty mins later when the plane landed, I reclined my seat fully. Not a peep from them. And when all passengers stood up to disembark, I turned around to find the couple still in their seats, bodies slunk low, heads bowed, avoiding eye contact with me. But I kept my eyes on them until they looked up and saw me. They quickly bowed their heads again.
By disembarking last, they thought they could avoid me. Unfortunately, my eyes were there to greet them on the transit bus. The guy bowed his head again while she stood red-faced and slightly tearful.
