ORIGIN/HISTORY of ḾLUWAALO (Should I become an Ape/Gorilla?) AMONG THE OGONI ETHNIC GROUP. This traditional display was created to represent the human society masquerading as apes. The goddess of season and Time known as Apããgò was saddled with the responsibility of announcing the arrival of this festival in celebration of Gùeh — the god of yam, which is enshrined in Korokoro.
This is a core tradition of the ancient Baan Taà that involves the invocation of demonic spirits in a tradition midnight race called Teera Porozím, the night before Apããgò blows her poongú (trumpet).
