THE AGONY OF POLITICS IN OGONI; BUA BOUE CASE STUDY.

The people of Bua Boue can now see and believe that we are actually backward when it comes to political appointments, infrastructure, women and youths empowerment.

Bua Boue is almost the biggest clan in Ogoni with about 12 autonomous communities and two political wards of Boue Ward 13 and 14 respectively.

Our people have become perpetual followers of other politicians from other ethnic groups, tribes and communities.

We have never been given any sensitive position or elected into any position of trust. The only thing we can always boast of is Caretaker Chairman for 3 months or councillor.

We only recently produced a commissioner that doesn't last long to bring home dividends of democracy because of high-handedness by their oga a the top.

We have never produced House of Assembly member, senator or even chairman of any juicy government agencies.

Even when we had one, one cannot give account of it because many are afraid to speak up and we have big men and youths everywhere.

Despite the sacrifices and supports of Boue people to all governments since 1999 to this day, no one has remembered Boue people.

We are really saddened by this scenario where Boue people are dumped after elections, despite our political strength and exposure.

Look at our road.

The former Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, stayed for 8 years, visited Boue twice and did nothing about it. I was the master of ceremony at his second visit.

He appointed a commissioner of works who even visited Boue through the bad road because of votes.

It was like Richard going to Egwenga in 1946 seeking support for British imperialism, I guess we lost out.

After much noise from our people, Agbakor Construction Company, owned by a Betem man from Ogoni who even married from Uegwere Boue, also abandoned the road. The road that leads to his in-law's house.
He worked on the road from Bori to the bush and stopped.

Just recently, we saw NDDC with all their busy body and lies that the road will be fixed, up till now the road is in its worst state. Even the eye service work they were doing is totally below standard.

Our jubilation was much on hearing that an Ogoni man was in charge, but today all our happiness has soured. No road to our farms, churches, schools and markets.

Again, the former commissioner of works is a friend to Boue people. He was a close friend and political ally.

Boue was always his next home. He flagged off internal roads in many areas including Isiokpo and even Mgbuoshimini, but there was no sign that Boue people will go home smoothly.

Yes, nothing happened.
We are pained.

The people of Bua rolled out their drums and asked the women to dance that an Ogoni woman was in charge of NDDC sometimes ago.

They danced using their white handkerchiefs to wipe their sorrows, using Dr. Joi Nunyie in their choruses, that women never fail like the mother of Mary who washed Jesus's feet with her sweat.

They wriggled their waist proudly that Dr. Joi Nunyie must remember them.

I have shown videos here where that road has injured about 8 women and about 4 children from that part of the world on their way to farms and churches or schools.

I have shown videos here that the gutter is about 6 feet up and nobody can drive to his or her home again.

Erosion is eating up these homes and communities gradually.

Our appeal.

The contract of this road was awarded to Nathjordan Nigeria Limited.

Who are the owners of this company?

We are appealing to the MD of NDDC to visit Boue road and confirm this sad story, to see how her fellow Niger Deltans are suffering on a daily basis.

We are begging him to work on Boue road for us. We are part of Niger Delta.

We are Ogoni and many communities now have access roads partly courtesy of Chief Derek Mene and NDDC.
