This morning, while trying to get a cab to work, a vehicle stopped beside me. I turned to respond, greeted the driver, and he offered to give me a ride to the bus stop since he was heading in the same direction. Considering I was running late and the harsh morning sun was already out, I decided to accept the offer.
"Thank you, sir," I said as I got into the car, and he drove off.
A few seconds later, he started a conversation.
Him: "So, where do you work?"
Me: "At a phone gadget store. I manage it for my brother..
He nodded. "That's nice. I love seeing hardworking young ladies, especially the beautiful ones."
I just smiled without saying anything. What could I even say? Though he was good-looking, I noticed a wedding ring on his finger, which clearly indicated he was taken—and I had no business with married men.
As we approached the bus stop, he asked for my number, adding that he would love for us to hang out one evening to get to know each other and have fun.
"Sir, you're married, and I don't have business with married men," I replied matter-of-fact.
He smiled, almost as if he had expected that response, but he didn’t give up.
"Yes, I'm married, but that doesn’t mean I can’t keep friends or hang out with them. Come on, you’ll gain a lot from spending time with me, trust me. It’s just a normal hangout—why are you saying no when all we’re going to do is have fun and get to know each other?"
Me: "Sir, please drop me here. Thank you for the ride, and as I said earlier—just in case you didn’t hear me—I have no business with married men. Have a nice day."
I smiled politely as I got down from the vehicle.
As I entered public transport, my thoughts wandered. I couldn’t help but wonder that this man’s wife might be far more beautiful and curvier than me—yet here he was. . . Anyway, it wasn’t my place to judge.
I just prayed silently: *As I Dey avoid other people’s husbands, may other women avoid mine when I finally marry. I don’t intend to marry a man who isn’t worthy of being admired, but God forbid he becomes someone else’s temptation.*
