HOW TO SURVIVE THE WINDS OF DOCTRINES

"And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, 13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; 14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, 15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love"(EPH 4:11-16).
In these last days when the winds of doctrines are blowing, there is need for us:
A. To have Christ as our foundation and be rooted and grounded in Him(1 Cor 3:11, Col 2:6,7)
B. To grow into spiritual maturity(v 14-15).
C. To grounded in the basic fundamentals of the Christian faith(Col 2:6,7, Hebrew 6:1-3)and
D. To hold on to the teachings you were taught and not fall victim to some new unscriptural teachings that seem enticing and contradict what we were taught(2 Thes 2:15, 2 Tim 3:14).
E. Be Planted in a local church and come under pastoral authority and covering(Psalm 68:6, 1 Cor 12:18, Hebrews 13:7,17).
F. Be a man and woman of prayer. Fellowship with Holy Spirit daily in prayer.
G. Give yourself to the study of the word(Matthew 7:24).
H. Associate with right people(1 Cor 15:33).

CHURCH ATTENDANCE IS IMPORTANT.

For sure, “the physical building is not the church;it’s the people.” The church is not the “gathering” alone, but the church must gather. The church is not only the church when it assembles, but God’s people must assemble. The church remains the church when we are meeting together and when we are scattered. Yet we are continually reminded in Scripture that we are to gather:
- “When you come together”(1 Cor 11:33);
-“When you come together in church”(1 Cor 14:26)
-“Not forsaking our own assembling together...”(Hebrews 10:25).
It is clear from these Scriptures above (and many others) that God has designed the local church as a people who meet or gather together into Him. It doesn’t work any other way. To substitute anything else for the actual gathering of God’s people is to be in gross error.
