Yesterday, at the First Animal & Vegan Advocacy (AVA) Summit , hosted in the very beautiful and hospitable city of Nairobi Kenya, the Founder and CEO of Vegan Journey Advocacy Joy Eyesan Mong Spoke at the closing Ceremony, on a somewhat unconventional but increasingly relevant topic: The Circle of Life: The African Myths and Ideologies in Relations to veganism.
This very topic became relevant in the growing advocacy for Veganism in Africa. It Connects African Myths and African traditional ideologies to veganism.
African traditional cosmologies have long held a holistic view of life that emphasizes the interconnectedness of all beings within the natural world.
While African cultures have historically included meat in their diets, their spiritual frameworks, rooted in respect for nature, reverence for animals, and the cyclical understanding of life, share important philosophical commonalities with the vegan ethos.
Her presentation, examined the relationship between African myths, ideologies, and the ethical principles of veganism, drawing parallels between ancient African worldviews and contemporary plant-based movements.
She Clinically explained what the Circle of life actually means and how African Myths and Folklore connects to Veganism and brought to light the African traditional and spiritual beliefs on life, death and rebirth.
In her Presentation she also made a cursory analysis of the views of prominent African vegans and their Philosophies like Nabaasa Innocent of Uganda, Virginia Ruguru (Kenya), Sizwe Nzima (South Africa), Omowale Adewale (Nigeria) and Leader Olumba Olumba Obu of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star.
And we further revealed how African ideologies can serve as a valuable cultural foundation for promoting sustainable and ethical living in Africa.
It was a beautiful Outing and we believe this is just the beginning of a rapid Vegan Advocacy in Africa.
Congratulations to AVA International for putting up a soul lifting event and also to all the Sponsors Especially Thrive Philanthropy and Thrive Africa for giving a voice to Vegan Women Advocates in the continent.
