Unical EDC Campus CEO Programme (GST 302)

The University of Calabar Entrepreneurship Development Centre in her quest for academic excellence and showcasing of qualitative and well deserving entrepreneurs in line with the NUC's Benchmark, embarked on an intensive 9 weeks hands-on activities for students in this category.

The Campus CEO programme for the 2021/2022 academic session kick-started with an orientation on the 25th day of August, 2023 for 300 level students as well as other students who were meant to carryout the programme in the course of their studies in the University of Calabar.

The 9 weeks Campus CEO programme was carefully structured by the Management of Unical EDC which captured each of the activities for students in this category to follow WEEKLY; starting from a compulsory 3 days consecutive business visitation to understudy businesses in-campus or off-campus to aid their activities for the Campus CEO Programme.

A Programme which was carefully monitored by the Management of Unical EDC came out successful as these students have been able to go through stages of owning and sustaining businesses in and out of the Campus.

Adding to the above, a total number of 422 groups of students was realized in which each of the groups went through the step-by-step approach in actualizing the objectives of the Campus CEO Programme. Unical EDC in partnership with Niger Mills (A Division of Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc) carried out 6 months skill acquisition training exercise to eight beneficiaries from host communities in the fields of Information & Communication Technology and Fashion & Design.

In line with a successful training process, a Graduation Ceremony was held on the 5th day of December, 2023 as well as certificates of completion being awarded to the Beneficiaries.

The Director (Dr. German Anagbogu) who was accompanied by the Deputy Director (Dr. Kingsley Abang), Dr. Emem (Faculty of Educational Foundations), Mr. Samuel Joseph (ICT Training Partner, Unical EDC) and Mr. Tunde Afolabi (Fashion and Design Training Partner, Unical EDC) urged the beneficiaries to utilize the opportunity they were furnished with wisely and as well appreciated the Management and Staff of Niger Mills for taking into consideration the need for bringing to reality job creators. He further admonished the beneficiaries not to stop with what they have learnt so far but rather go as far as expanding in the field so as to be inspirations to others who will have opportunities such as this.

The Niger Mills Managing Director added that he was happy seeing the beneficiaries coming out successful after the 6 months training exercise as it was evident in a testimony and words of appreciation given by one of the beneficiaries during the graduation ceremony.

The President of the Host Communities added by thanking the Management of Unical Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Niger Mills for the rare opportunity given to the beneficiaries to benefit from the wealth of knowledge and technical know-how in their fields of endeavor.

Unical EDC in compliance with Teaching and Learning Excellence organized a 3-day Train-The-Trainers Course for Lecturers and Potential Lecturers of University of Calabar, Teaching Entrepreneurship Courses.

The training contents which were considered are as follows:
Module 1: Overview of Business and Entrepreneurship Education
Module 2: Vocational Foundation of Entrepreneurship Education
Module 3: Scaling and Bench-marking Instructional Content of GST 102 - Introduction to Entrepreneurship
Module 4: Scaling and Bench-marking Instructional Content of GST 202 - Entrepreneurship Fundamentals
Module 5: Pedagogy of Entrepreneurship Education
Module 6: Entrepreneurship Practicum: Implementing GST 302 - Entrepreneurship Practical.

The Chief Host, Prof. Florence Obi (the first female Vice Chancellor of University of Calabar) was duly represented by Prof. Chukwurah who urged the lecturers and potential lecturers of the University of Calabar to put in their very best so as to continuously raise the banner of success stories of the University of Calabar.

Unical EDC TRADE FAIR which was done on the 10th day of October, 2023 was a blast.

The event started with a warm welcome by the Director, Unical Entrepreneurship Development Centre (Dr. German Anagbogu).

Stating further, the event of the 2023 Unical EDC Trade Fair was graced by the amiable First Female Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (Prof. Florence Banku Obi) who encouraged students to show more seriousness in the training exercise as the University of Calabar is focused on graduating well seasoned youths who will be employers of labor and outstanding entrepreneurs of the 21st Century.

Adding to what the Vice Chancellor said, the Honorable Commissioner for Public Complains Commission, Cross River State (Hon. Steve Owan) and also the Director, Arthur Jarvis University Entrepreneurship Development Centre (Dr. Uduak Mbang) who were special guests of honor, made the students see the need to participate fully in their entrepreneurial activities.

The Director Unical EDC in accordance with the Deputy Director Unical EDC (Dr. Kingsley Abang) joined the Vice Chancellor and the special guests in the Trade Fair networking.

A visitation/inspection of training site by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Cross River State to University of Calabar Entrepreneurship Development Centre.

The Honorable Commissioner was overwhelmed with the activities carried out by Unical Entrepreneurship Centre. He further stated that the introduction of students to developing their Feasibility Studies and Business Plans as a component of their skill acquisition exercise was a bold step and a realizable one as the students will not just get the skills but know the involvements in developing one.

The Director of Unical EDC (Dr. German Anagbogu) on behalf of the Vice Chancellor (Prof. Florence Obi) appreciated the Honorable Commissioner for taking out time irrespective of his tight schedule to see for himself the success of the Centre and as well structured teaching/learning exercise carried out so far.
