Overcoming Sleep in the Place of Prayer
"If you sleep during your prayer time, that sleep is usually very sweet. And one thing I’ve found out is that time will just be flying. You will tell yourself, 'I just want to calm down and pray,' but by the time you wake up, it's 6:00 AM! You will now be wondering what happened, and you'll be so angry with yourself.
Get up from the bed! Get up. Your flesh is Satan’s access point to your life. This is why the recommendation that Paul gives us for the flesh is that you must kill it; you must put it to death. If the desires of your flesh are so alive, Satan will take advantage of them to cripple your destiny.
The desires of the flesh include your desire for sleep. You will find that every single night you want to wake up and pray, your flesh will actively resist you. It is those who have learned how to win that specific war who have what we call consistency.
Some people know that if they stay on the bed, they will fall back asleep. Yet, when the alarm rings at 12:00 AM or 1:00 AM, instead of getting up, they stay there. They say, 'No, I am a man of spiritual stature.' So you lie down on the bed, claiming you are a man of stature, you spread your legs, and the fan is turning 360 degrees, blowing cool air over you like that.
Sometimes, your salvation is simply to come down from the bed and start walking around!
If you do that, even Satan will say, 'This person is serious. They are really serious.' Why? Because you cannot sleep while standing on your feet. Even if you mistakenly dose off on your feet, the moment your head hits the wall, you won't need an angel to wake you up! You sleep like that, your head jams the door, and immediately you are
awake.
