Over 2,000 Households Hit, as NEDC Assesses Windstorm Damage in Gashua
The NEDC: NE Development Commission, has conducted an assessment of communities affected by a devastating windstorm in Gashua and environs, Bade LGA, Yobe State.
The assessment team was led by NEDC Yobe State Coordinator, Prof. Ali IbrahimAbbas, alongside the Executive Chairman of Bade LGA, Hon. Ibrahim Babagana.
The visit was aimed at evaluating the extent of damage, identifying priority needs, and determining immediate support to alleviate the suffering of victims.
Preliminary findings from the assessment show that over 2,000 households were affected by the windstorm. The disaster also claimed 4 lives and caused widespread destruction to critical social infrastructure; homes, schools, water boreholes, and shops.
While commiserating with the victims, Prof. Abbas, on behalf of the NEDC Management and MD/CEO Mohammed G. Alkali, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing urgent relief and support during this difficult period.
“NEDC stands with the people of Gashua in these trying times. As Governor Buni is in contact with the Management of the Commission, we are mobilizing resources to support affected households soonest,” he said.
NEDC acknowledges the efforts of the Bade LGA Chairman, SEMA Local Emergency Management Committee, NEDC volunteers, and all stakeholders for their coordination, orderliness, and support during the assessment.
The Commission assured residents that intervention is underway as “Help is on the way soon, Insha Allah.”
