INTRODUCTION

Under the special patronage of His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Muslim World League (MWL), in collaboration with Jama’atu Izalatil Bid’ah Wa Iqamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS), Nigeria, organized an international conference entitled:

“Religious and Cultural Diversity and Social Peace: A Partnership for a Promising Future.”

The conference was held in Abuja, the capital of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on 11 and 12 August 2026.

The conference brought together prominent Muslim and Christian religious leaders, leading scholars and experts, decision-makers, representatives of government institutions, civil society organizations, regional and international bodies, as well as distinguished personalities from Nigeria, West Africa and other parts of the world.

The conference was held at a time when the world is facing numerous challenges affecting social peace, including the increasing spread of hate speech and religious and ethnic conflicts, which threaten social cohesion and hinder development and stability.

Participants affirmed that religious, cultural and ethnic diversity is a reality of human life and should not be regarded as a source of conflict and division. Rather, diversity can serve as an opportunity to enrich human civilization and promote the development of society.
