A Cry for Humanity: A Message on the Killings in Plateau State and Across Nigeria

With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we mourn the senseless and continuous killings of innocent souls in Plateau State and other parts of Nigeria. These tragedies are not just numbers—they are fathers, mothers, children, and friends whose lives have been cut short in cold blood, leaving behind pain, trauma, and unanswered questions.

How long shall we remain silent in the face of this brutality? How many more lives must be lost before our conscience awakes as a nation? These innocent people were not part of any war—they were simply living, hoping, praying, and striving like all of us.

We must remember that every life is sacred. The bloodshed, the burning of villages, the forced displacement, and the deepening grief have shaken the very soul of our nation. Injustice anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere.

We call on the government, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and every citizen with a voice and a heart to rise and say enough is enough. We must unite beyond ethnicity, politics, and religion to demand justice, protection, and peace for all Nigerians—especially the most vulnerable.

To those who have lost loved ones, we say: your pain is our pain. We grieve with you. We stand with you. And we will not stop speaking until peace returns, not as a temporary calm, but as a lasting presence.

May the souls of the innocent departed rest in peace. And may Nigeria rise from this darkness into the light of justice, unity, and true peace.

Is a novel by Thomas Hardy published in 1891. The story follows the life of Tess Durbeyfield, a young woman from a working-class family who discovers that she is a descendant of the noble D'Urberville family. Tess's family sends her to seek help and support from their wealthy relatives, the D'Urbervilles.

Sent by her family to seek assistance from the wealthy D'Urbervilles, Tess encounters Alec D'Urberville, a manipulative and lustful young man. Alec seduces Tess, leading to her subsequent pregnancy. The burden of her secret weighs heavily on Tess, and she is filled with shame and guilt.

Tess eventually meets Angel Clare, a kind and idealistic man whom she falls deeply in love with. She confesses her past to him, hoping for forgiveness and understanding. While initially forgiving, Angel later admits that he cannot fully accept Tess due to his rigid moral ideals.

Heartbroken, Tess is forced to return to Alec for support and becomes entangled in a web of deceit and despair. She bears Alec's child, only to lose the baby shortly after birth. In a devastating turn of events, Angel returns and finally understands Tess's true worth. However, it is too late as Tess's spirit is broken, and she tragically ends her life.

"Tess of the D'Urbervilles" explores themes of social class, gender inequality, and the destructive power of societal judgment. Through Tess's journey, the novel highlights the injustices faced by women and the constraints placed upon them in Victorian society. It is a poignant tale of love, tragedy, and the struggle for individual freedom.

The novel continues to follow Tess's life as she struggles with her past, internal conflicts, and societal expectations. Ultimately, Tess's life becomes increasingly tragic as she is caught in circumstances beyond her control. The novel explores themes of social class, gender inequality, and the devastating consequences of a rigid and judgmental society on the individual's life. Tess's story presents a compelling critique of Victorian morality and the double standards imposed on women.

I remember this play; 'The Lion and the Jewel'

It is a play written by Nigerian playwright Wole Sonyinka. Set in the Yoruba village of Ilujinle, the story revolves around the power struggle between tradition and modernity, as well as the battle of the sexes.

The play's central characters include Sidi, a beautiful and headstrong young woman who becomes the object of desire for both Baroka, the village chief (the Lion), and Lakunle, a young schoolteacher who represents modernity (the Jewel).

Baroka, the crafty and charismatic village chief, seeks to marry Sidi to validate his power and authority. Despite being much older than Sidi, Baroka employs various tactics to win her over, including flattery and manipulation.

On the other hand, Lakunle, the modern-minded schoolteacher, sees Sidi as a symbol of the backwardness he seeks to overcome in the village. He criticizes traditional practices and attempts to modernize Ilujinle, including advocating for the education of women and the abandonment of polygamy.

Sidi, however, is torn between the two men and their conflicting worldviews. While she initially dismisses Lakunle's advances, she is also wary of becoming one of Baroka's many wives. Ultimately, Sidi realizes that she has the power to choose her own destiny and rejects both men's advances.

In a clever twist, Baroka orchestrates a plan to humiliate Lakunle and assert his dominance over the village. He feigns impotence and spreads rumors that Sidi's beauty has caused his condition. Sidi, believing that she has emasculated the powerful chief, agrees to marry Baroka, unaware of his deception.

However, in the play's final moments, Baroka reveals that his impotence was a ruse to trick Sidi into marrying him. He regains his virility, metaphorically asserting the continued dominance of tradition over modernity.

"The Lion and the Jewel" explores themes of power, gender, and the clash between tradition and modernity in African society.

"Lord of the Flies" is a novel written by British author William Golding. It was first published in 1954 and is a classic work of literature.
"Lord of the Flies" by William Golding is a novel about a group of British boys, including Ralph, Piggy, Jack, and others, who find themselves stranded on a deserted island due to a plane crash during a war. At first, they attempt to establish order and create a system of governance, electing Ralph as their leader. They use a conch shell as a symbol of authority, and they attempt to maintain a signal fire to attract rescuers.
However, as time passes, the boys' society begins to unravel. The group splits into two factions: one led by Ralph, who seeks to maintain a sense of civilization and hope for rescue, and the other led by Jack, who becomes increasingly savage and power-hungry. Jack's group embraces violence and worships a pig's head on a stick as "The Lord of the Flies," representing the primal and dark instincts within them.
As the boys descend into barbarism, their fear of a mythical beast on the island and their internal conflicts lead to violence and death. In the end, a naval officer arrives, rescuing the boys but highlighting the chaos and brutality that have taken hold on the island.into savagery.
Overall, "Lord of the Flies" is a powerful and disturbing exploration of the human condition and remains a classic in literature for its examination of the dark side of humanity and the fragility of civilization.

Poem of the day.

The Teacher Lost Hope!

He's deep down his thoughts
Deep down his sorrows

Hoping his efforts can be validated
Even his confidence have faded
Is his happiness facing deformation?

He's in pain and a lot of stress
Disappointments seem to be smashing his chest
His believe is terrorized by hurricanes

His heart is into pieces and his smile is really twisted
His scars are still bleeding and his faith is toasted

His pillow is always drowning in tears as his family live in pains
Oh yes he's feeling like an empty shell
His believe is frozen nearly to death
As the darken smoke filled his brain through his nose
But his effort is like a searching moon in land
And can he make hell be frozen for a day and enjoy?
