SKILLS RATHER THAN JUST DEGREES.

My Submission as a linguist.

I understand how disheartening it can be to see people criticize others without bothering to understand the content of their work. Recently, I came across a many posts about a book " Skills rather than just Degrees" written by Professor Issa Pantami, the Former Minister of Digital Communication in the Administration of President Muhammad Buhari, and it's been the subject of much debate on social media. It's unfortunate that some people, particularly those in the academic community, have chosen to attack the person of Isa Pantami and question his award of professorship by FUTO, instead of focusing on the content of his book.

However, I believe that it's important to criticize Pantami based on the content of his book, rather than on how he got his professorship title. We should aim to offer constructive feedback to improve the work. Moreover, it's far better to be positive towards our fellow human beings who have done something to help our society grow.

The title of the book, "Skills rather than just degrees," resonates with the current reality in Nigeria. The book will raise important questions about the value of degree certificates, particularly in social sciences and humanities courses, and the importance of acquiring skills to remain relevant in today's world. I plan to read the book myself, based on the title alone, and I believe it's a must-read for every Nigerian youth.

I commend Professor Issa Pantami for putting up a debate challenge, and I am surprised that no one has shown readiness to engage him. Those who are shouting that he is not a professor should debate with him and see the difference. Every book has its commendations and criticisms, and it's important to focus on the content and offer constructive feedback to improve the work.

In conclusion, let's learn to focus on the content of people's work and offer constructive feedback rather than criticize individuals based on personal biases. We need to embrace skills and acquire them to remain relevant in today's world. Let's be empathetic towards one another and strive to make our society a better place.
My only concern is the title of the book it's should be "skills rather than only degree" and not "skills rather than JUST degree. I mean Professor Isa Ali Pantami should understand and recognize the value of formal education.

The fact that he used the word "just" to describe degrees could be seen as undermining the hard work and dedication that students put into their studies.

It's important for professors to lead by example and to promote the importance of academic excellence, while also acknowledging the importance of practical skills.

I choose to be different not to be pressured

People like us are not born with silver spoon
